F56 Headlights/Headlamps
Hi All,
I have been lurking on the NAM forums for a few months now, to learn more about the death rattle issue. I have to say this is a very friendly community, and I have learned a lot about this common issue that many of us have. However my death rattle problem is still unsolved, which is a PITA.
In return for all the info I picked up, I'd like to share the latest development straight of the the Taiwanese Parts Manufacturing Industry. It occurs to me no one else has posted about it.
It is a F56 headlamp look-alike made to fit the R56. It is currently taking deposits/orders and will be available for sale to the public early september. The price is 3000 Chinese Yuan, so do the maths for how much that is in USD.
It has the daytime LED, projector headlamps and halogen turn signals. It comes with halogen bulbs as stock, so you can mod it to fit a HID ballast if you wish.
This is a great mod for those who are still using the halogen housing and wish to retrofit the R56 projectors in.
There are no reviews of this product yet, but here are some pics. I will post any updates if I find any. Please bear in mind this is still very fresh even in Asia, so news might not come as quick.

Hey guys, just an update, I pulled the trigger and bought these a month back, it was on special order since they said the factory only produced the HID variety, and it required the oem ballast to be moved over.
I placed an order for a halogen version, took 21 days to make.
I will try to see if I have time this weekend to fit it.

Seems to be the one I have installed. As far as I know, only one manufacturer is producing them right now, so most probably all the surfacing products are the same. The factory is called Sonar, you can google them and have a look. They have all the etching on the headlight plastic etc and seem to know their thing.

Had some time over the weekend to install it. Installation was a breeze, fully plug and play. Took me approx 20mins to remove the stock headlamps and install the new ones. Actually the step that took the most time was finding a good place to mount my ballasts, since I have a canbus kit there are two rather big "boxes" to do the error cancelling.
There is one cable left unconnected. It is the headlight levelling plug. The seller has instructed me to bring over the stock setup over and it will work. Although I haven't had any error lights pop up without installing it. Adjustment to the headlights is extremely straight forward, with two huge bolts for adjusting up/down left/right and readily accessible.
In terms of the DRL, you can either tap into an ACC fuse for a full DRL effect, or else they have provided instructions to tap into the parking light below to turn on with the Parking lights. Wire taps were also included which I found to be pretty nice of them, although I bought some in preparation for this.
Oh, and unlike the Spec-D one, this one does have the option to have high beams on permanently if u wish to do so. I have read in multiple threads for the Spec-D that this function is disabled.

I can tell you that the DRL ring is extremely bright and extremely F56-like. Looks even better IMO maybe im just biased.
I bought it from the site mentioned above - Taobao. But some folks have already posted an ebay link here.......
Btw for those who are thinking to pull the trigger, I highly recommend this mod, it changes the whole look of the front end.
One think to note, I tapped my DRLs to the parking lights, and every time the car turns on, it flickers for a while when the mini computer is doing its' bulb checks, if that annoys you, I recommend tapping to a ACC fuse to get a legit "DRL" install. I didn't want to do that because the modern cars now that have DRL as standard, their DRLs are actually programmed to have a delayed lightup after startup, as LEDs are very sensitive to altering voltages - which happen at startup, hence I opted to tap to the parking lights, the tradeoff, the stupid flicker everytime.
