NEW compact Italian air horns for MINI Coopers

Griots Garage has three COMPACt Italian Air Horns they sell for 40 BUCKS and they sound just like the large dual bell horns.

I just installed the "Red Compact Italian Air Horns" part no.# 77839.

Comes with some hardware including in line fuse and relay, and several types of install instructions for various makes cars and OEM horn wiring.

Use Diagram "B" for our MINI Coopers. Install was sooooo easy and mounted it to firewall area behind engine cover near "MINI" Badge.

Awesome and only 40 dollars and few hours install time.....

Compressor is attached at bottom. So the whole thing is ONE comact unit - I thought I could mount it where Alta and M7's catch cans usually mount, but it was just a little bit too big for that spot. So mounting it with horns facing down towards Oil filter area was only place I could find. When changing oil filter one only has to loosen one large nut use to hang the unit, lift it up and then let the horn lay in the heat shield below......then re-attach after filter change, takes only a few seconds to do. When I have a chance, I will use a large wing nut so no box wrench is needed to unattach the horn.

Here's the Link: http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/...t+air+horns.do

Glad I could do that for ya,

Uses OEM horn buttons....One power lead from engine bay where you jump start your car goes directly to the horns compressor, another power lead from OEM horn wire at passenger side goes to the relay....when you press the oem horn button the power lead to relay closes the switch and activates the compressor.

Use Diagram B for wiring in our cars....( they have 5 different diagrams )

Sounds exactly like the dual red horns vendors sell here. I know because this is my third set in three different cars.....

Looks like the Stebel Nautilus Compact and the Bad Boy compact also around that price. Nice and loud? One of my factory one's has failed twice now but on warranty.

Those wires coming out of it going to melt? It looks like they are touching the heat shield.

Looks like one to me too. I have one on my Motorcycle. Be sure to use the relay wiring set up (it comes with the Stebel so I hope this one does too) or you won't get as loud as it can possibly be. It wants full current to really show out.

Wierd the MINI factory one failed....I have never come across that before.

My last two sets in other cars had tubing and brackets a real PITA.

This thing hangs just like your hanging the compressor, but the horns are attached. Quick and fast install.

Just need black/red 14 guage wire, some connectors and one that splices into the power lead from OEM wire.

And I sealed off all the OEM the connectors as they are disconnected and not being used. But if you wanted, since I am using a relay and the air horns have their own dedicated power source I guess you can have the OEM horn connected and use all three as well.....

I'd love to have one of those!

Doesn't it inhibit access to the oil filter though???

I tapped into the +POS power jumper wire box next to air cleaner ( MCS model) for compressor power+

And I wired the relay so it gets power from OEM horn wiring from passenger side to close the circuit.

The whole unit has a cup shaped hanger which hangs on the head of a 1/2 bolt......just loosen one side a little and horn set up lifts up in 2 seconds and then just lay it on the heat shield and it;s out of the way..... Trust me, there is no other place to hang it. Spent two days and all last night thinking of places...

I have a Stebel version. I mounted mine in the the compartment where the ABS module is housed, that lets the go right to the air. Although, thinking about it now mounting it where you did also lets it vent to the air (albeit under the car) and keeps it warm so it doesnt freeze up in the winter.

I can imagine many polite situations where I wouldn't want to use the locomotive horn.
