Electrical NCSExpert for beginners

I got V41 from post number 20 in this thread: Fault BEST version when reading FRM module for 2011 R56
Read the directions in some of the "guide" threads that are pinned to the top of the electrical mod section for where to place the files when you unpack the zip.

Download the package posted by GTECKO at the very top of this thread. Inside that package is a well written 2-part guide. The first part explains how to install all the pieces including where to put the various folders in the daten zip file. The second part explains how to use it. Read the guide carefully, and you should be able to get things working. Definitely be careful though... there is a new user who posted to the other sticky thread and it sounds like he has seriously messed things up. I suspect nobody has responded to him because nobody knows how to help him fix what he has done. I have successfully coded some of the changes I want, but have also run into problems trying to code one of the modules. You may have seen the thread I started, and may have noticed that I haven't gotten an answer for why I can't get it to work. I am hesitant to experiment much because I've never seen a definitive answer for how to recover if you make a mistake somewhere in the process.

I think I have the right file now. GTECKO mentioned two files. I ended up downloading 350517-inpa k+can.rar and now I am downloaded Mini Cooper Coding.rar. I think this is what I was missing. Now I see the guides and Datens Unfortunately it will be the weekend before I can re-examine the new files and uninstall the other . Not sure how I missed that but think I had some internet issues at the time and just figured one was the same as the other. Thanks TiggerGTO

You should be able to get DIS running on this cable (I have DIS running). Replacing modules will sometimes require the use of Progman (if your car is old enough) or ISTA/P. So you MAY be able replace the steering sensor computer (SZL) with WinFPK or even DIS. Some modules require the VIN number programmed and others do not. Check out the bimmerforums to see if anyone else has replaced the SZL in an E60 or E90.

I've tried a couple things after I first posted, and any time somebody suggested something else to check, but I haven't been able to do anything with FRM that makes any difference. I had no problems with the other modules, so I'm not sure what's going on. I'm hesitant to try too many things after reading about the problems that wai_jai268 is having.

I have created a new folder "Mini Cooper Coding" with a complete guide and datens. I thought the other link I had provided was taking forever to download, the instruction were too complicated and NCS was not in English.
CLICK HERE to download through Google doc.
You do not need to ask for a request for download this one.
Very few members had problems, so I created a second link (below)
CLICK HERE to download file - You do need to wait 90 seconds before downloading.
File is 361MB and should take you 2-5minutes or less to download though Google doc and 10 minutes through 4shared.
You will find inside:
The program that will let you access the car's computer is called NSC expert.

I used 7Zip. Just google it, and you'll find it. Be careful -- coding is not simple to setup or simple to do. One of the guides literally says something along the lines that if you don't know what a RAR file is, you ought to think again about jumping into this.

I only ran into one problem.
it doesnt let me select my com number it only goes to 9 and my computer made mine 13. is there another number i can choose?
● Use the defaults for all installation paths (meaning just skip by clicking Next.
-Uncheck the box for "Execute backup and restore wizard".
-Select the COM port from Step 3 of the previous section. Do not check the box for "USB to serial adapter".
-Restart your computer when prompted to do so.

Hi there,
i just startet working with NCS Expert on my R50 '04 Mini One.
I've coded different comfort functions successfully.
My retrofitted BC and revmeter are working perfect now But i think this was by accident - it started working after i've changed from km/h to miles and back. But works perfect now
But i don't know how to code my retrofitted fog lights?
I think they are linked to the basic modul on the right side.
Does anyone know what to do or can at least tell me the name of the basic modul within the NCS Tool?

Many thanks,
Tim

You have to use XP mode on Windows 7. When you install and start it, it runs a virtual XP session (like VMWare if you have heard of that). Once you've started your virtual XP session, you install and run the coding tools there.
