Hey what's goin' on fellow namers! I just thought I would start a new thread on performance parts and their abbreviations. If you can think of more please post. If you have a correction, do the same. I hope this thread will evolve into one that is both helpful for veteran motorers and newer ones, who can quickly reference it, if they are confused on a part, an abbreviation in this forum, or if they would like some info regarding a certain part. Thanks and have fun modding!

If i remember corectly it is like a blow off valve on a turbo. It releases the boost presure at a specified PSI. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that is what it does.
It allows extra boosted air to bypass the engine at low speeds or when shifting so you don't need to burn tons of fuel when you don't need to [fuel mixes in with air at x:y proportion]. That's how I understand it, at least.
edit: it also is supposed to prevent pressure build up after hard throttle to escapre when you've lifted [which is like shutting the door on the air].

RMW 2.0L with big-valve head (inconel valves, RMW cam), port-matched IM, shorty header, 17% pulley on stock M45, M7 STB, TEIN SS+ w/ EDFC, HSport comp rear sway and lower control arms, XACT flywheel w/ SPEC stg. 3 clutch, PLX R-300, old RMW tune (need a new one ;-)) Older. Wiser. Making amends.
does the bypass valve make that cool whoosh sound with a supercharger?? That would be sick!
Barf.
