Drivetrain RaceChip Ultimate install + review for b46
#6
Easy 5 minute install.
1. Remove 2 10mm fasteners on air intake.
2. run harness to connections@map,maf and fuel system.
3. remove test plug from harness and plug in racechip.
4. velcro or use included ziptie to attach to battery box area.
5. reattach air intake.
6. Start car and check for any warning lights. If you have warning lights check connections,if all connections are good check box to see if set to factory preset.
Impressions
Tested in 4th gear ,racechip builds boost lower in the range 1500/2000 rpm and holds it to 6500rpm. I can see where 1st and 2nd gear will have traction issues.
Very smooth throttle response and with the added tq you can drive it like a diesel shifting at 2000/2500 rpm
Performance wise I would have to say it pulls stronger then my 2009 fjcw did when equipped with just rmw high boost tune #2,akrapovic dp, forge inter cooler.
Cant wait to pair the racechip with the jcw pro tuning kit!!!!!!!!

NOTICEABLE GAIN
feels like a few psi have been added and power feels very strong with nice gains throught the range.I noticed lastnight testdrive 72f high humidity verses the late afternoon 98f extreme humidity was cooler temps now make a bigger difference in how quick it pulls and very eager to bounce off rpm limiter in the lower gears.
All in all I would say very respectable gains under the curve with a noticable gain in peak outputs. maybe a 10 to 20% gain under the curve and 15% peak. Should be able to do dyno pulls in the next month.
setting was switch s1 7 s2 default

Have only found one car running the upgraded brake kit (r99) would love to get the dimensions of front caliper vs stock.Pretty sure I will need spacers. just how big do I need with the bbs 18x8 et 45? Trying to avoid nextday shipping fees.

Long time reader, and soon to be first time mini owner. Your posts are really helpful in planning for the arrival of my car - except maybe in keeping my budget under check :-). Did you talk to Racechip about how their machine might interact with the JCW tune? Does it assume a certain programming on the ECU and would the flash revision cause any conflicts? Thinking about getting the same and was curious as their site is not so specific.

Thanks! The US guy said they'd have to adjust it. I presume I should buy the Ultimate version for the S. Looking forward to seeing all your mods in the other thread.

Update
So far loving every minute of the racechip.Afer adjusting settings I have observed that the higher the setting of the chip the trasition to over boost is more noticable. As for mpg the downside is the higher the setting the more milage is affected.
very happy with the Racechip and hope to have similar results in the coming weeks when the f55 tuning kit is installed.

Roadtrip test
Did 140 miles today and each leg of the journey was blessed with great visibility and little traffic.
1000 Rpm in 4th to 5500 Rpm
1250 Rpm in 5th to 5000 Rpm
1500 Rpm in 6th t0 4000 Rpm
Car pulled very strong on each pull without the need to downshift.
The added power now gives more confidence when overtaking and merging.
In sport it feels like the transition to over boost is smoother while normal and green there is
pronounced spike in power while over boost is engaging.

1000 mile update
A few observations after a reset and testing box on all settings with pulls in 4th 5th and 6th.
1. the lower the setting the more linear the power band
2. the lower the setting the lower the shift point
3. setting s1 in normal feels like sport without box,s3 in green pulls stronger vs s1 in sport
4. current setting is s7 . Rolling start in 4th 40 mph to 80 mph against buddys gp2 with race chip ultimate ,downpipe ,nm intake and akrapovic exhaust ,f55 pulled 3 cars on gp2.
5. fuel mileage 340 miles per tank at 80 mph interstate combined with some heavy stop and go traffic plus 100f+ temps.2 people including luggage ac set on freeze.
6. after doing last reset i kept rpm below 4000 and speeds under 80 for 100 miles vs hammering it out of the box, now green and normal have much smoother transition to overboost and in sport the transition to overboost is very aggressive kinda like my old rmw tuned r56 fjcw but without the r56 feeling of no power under 2500 rpm.
