Ladies at the Dragon: Run and Luncheon - MOTD-2007
Ladies at the Dragon: Run and Luncheon - MOTD-2007
Gals,
Cheryl (MINItencan, president of the Indiana MINI club) and I plan to organize a Ladies Run at next year's MOTD. It's just a rough sketch at this point, but we want to raise money for the cure for breast cancer. My mother is a survivor, so this has a special meaning for me.
So far, the route we are considering is from Fontana Village to Deal's Gap, to Robbinsville, to the Bistro by the River in Tellico Plains. That is a lovely drive and it will be wonderful to see the MINI gals represent.
Badging/flags/decals/etc. to be determined....
We'll keep you posted, but wanted to start the buzz!

when i first read the title, i was thinking it was going to be an actual foot race, and thought it was good you were giving us a year to get in shape to hoof the roads at the dragon!

Count me in for next year! I even have an idea for a tee that I am playing around with. I will let you know in the future. Not something too offensive but rather women epowering! got to take some time to figure it all out and have my artist friends help me since I don't have the programs...But I am reving to go! (And to leave my husband behind!!! LOL)

Yay! Something specific to look forward to next year! I am DEFINITELY in (provided it does not conflict with the brew swap -- in which case I will donate and purchase whatever related schwag.)
I would be up for this. Although not breast cancer, my mother is a cancer survivor.
It looks like may be up for another Dragon autocross though so I hope it won't conflict.
How did you get to the autocross this year MandaBoo, if not via the Dragon?

Manda, if you read the proposed route, it doesn't include the Dragon. We would leave from Fontana, take 28 to Deal's Gap, turn left onto 129, drive past Tapoco Lodge and the Fugitive Bridge, then take 129 through Robbinsville to 74 (I think, or 72), and on to Tellico Plains to the Bistro. No Dragonslaying is involved.
And gals..."runs" at the Dragon area do not mean jogging! LMAO! They mean running great routes and roads in your MINIs.

The luncheon sounds really nice though. It will give all us ladies a chance to really meet each other without all the men folk
*sneaks quietly into thread, leaves comment about "women drivers" and quickly sneaks out, giggling*
*then comes back in to tell everyone that this is one hella cool idea*

A EO party is lonnng overdue....I'm in.
Phil, behave yer bad self
OK...yes, I must qualify: I WILL be there, as long as it doesn't conflict with the beer swap, as OmToast, says.
But I'm confident it won't!
We need a special magnetic decal or something to show our support.
And BTW, although I don't have any immediate family members die of cancer, one of my best friends did about 4 years ago, and since then, I've been working on my PhD, with my dissertation in breast cancer and especially metastatic development!
So it is only natural for me to support the more human side of cancer by an event such as this. Great idea!!!

Holy cow!! I knew MINIclo was going to post but I never expected all the replies already!!
I have not had breast cancer but did have a scare about a year and a half ago. Thankfully it was fibroadenoma but there are a couple of breast cancer survivors in our family.
It is great to see the support and interest.
I agree it will be a good time for the ladies to get together without the men.
I don't know if the hubby will be able to handle not having the "nag" on in the MINI while he is dragonslaying though!! I guess he won't get lost....he knows where the dragon is.....
