R52 Non operating top
Non operating top
When I left work tonight I attempted to lower the top and no joy. I checked the fuse, the rear package shelf, and inspected what I could see and nothing seemed amiss. I am 250 miles from closest dealer, anything else to try before calling the dealer? The car is an '06.
Thanks,
George

Have you fooled with the levers that allow you to lift the rear edge of the top? Almost every time I use those (which is VERY seldom) I have to redo it in order to get the top to work. After that, I'd just put all the windows down, then up again, turn off the car, then try again. Kind of like "restart" on a computer. I hope it works. Does the sunroof part work? If so, that's a sure sign the problem is at the rear hatch.

This is spooky, but it is exactly two years after my original post and it has happened again. No open on either the sunroof or the top. I check the fuse and it is good, check the switches in the back (opened boot hatches and lifted the top, reclosed, etc.), and rolled windows down and restarted. The only thing that I can think of that is different is that I just replaced the battery. Is there a master reset on the top that I must go through? Thanks for all the help and advice as I am still 250 miles away from the closest dealer.

It just magically started working! I am guessing that I have a bad switch/contact somewhere. I am off to the dealer tomorrow morning to have it looked at. I will update with more info when I know more.
Those two handles at the back, that allow you to raise the back edge of the top are ridiculously sensitive. If your head isn't tilted right when you push them into position, the top won't go down. That has been the problem every time I found the top wouldn't operate. I know you just checked it; check it again.
Well, I am back from repairs and it was not pretty. A new wiring harness was needed and that was only a couple hundred dollars. The hard part to swallow was the 11 hours of labor to replace. This is not a cheap fix and is verp upsetting to me. You would think that they would design something a little easier to replace.
The good news is that top is fixed and the rain has stopped!
