The Paceman is likely history according to BMW’s Mini Group announcement.

IMO, The Paceman was a brilliant move building a 2 door Countryman coupe crossover for singles and empty nesters wanting to depart the 4 door family car status.
The good news is while the BMW Mini group is figuring out how to do more than take orders on mini hardtops and upsell young families into Countryman's, other OEM's like Mercedes, Porsche, Audi and Volvo do recognize the growing segment with the developing of new coupe crossovers.

If that's the case I wonder what it will do for resale? If they decide to stop making the car altogether or giving it updates, I might trade mine in sooner rather than 5 years from now.

Scarcity has very little to do with the value of the average used vehicle for sale. Hell, when GM stopped making the Saturns they were dumping the remaining cars on the market at much lower selling prices which in turn brought down the value of any used Saturns for sale out there. And there weren't that many Saturns out there to start with.
I'm guessing that if BMW/MINI plans on dropping the Paceman in the next couple of years then you either have to consider trading yours in soon or holding onto it for a few years so that the value loss impact is minimal. Just my 2 cents adjusted for inflation & scarcity worth....

IMO, the resale value will likely be better on the Paceman than other Mini’s and most BMW’s whether or not BMW’s Mini group decides to produce the next version of the Countryman in a 2dr sportier Paceman crossover coupe or not.
I traded a tricked out 2011 R56S with only 28,000 miles a few months ago on my Paceman, taking almost a 50% resale value hit due to many contributing factors. First, the R56 was discontinued with the impending arrival of the F56. Second, Mini sold just under 40,000 cooper hardtops in the U.S for 2010 and 2011 so they are not hard to find or exclusive. Lastly, if someone is into Mini’s they can lease a new hardtop with full warranty, free maintenance and no worries cheaper than buying a 3 or 4 year used Mini, and if not into Mini’s, they can buy a lot of new cars with stellar ratings in the same size category in the mid-teens.
If someone is looking for a sporty driving coupe that will seat four adults with crossover utility, it’s either a Land Rover Evoque for 45K to 55K or a Paceman for 15K less. When you think about it, selling over 8,000 Paceman’s in Europe plus whatever was sold in the rest of the world just by putting the product on showrooms, with no marketing and or exposure outside of the Mini community is really strong, making it the third bestselling Mini model and most expensive of the three in only 12 months.

I would have to be extremely bored to go on a VW or Audi forum just to post negatives about the brands. I'm not going to defend my Paceman either. I couldn't be more pleased with it.

with a a stiffer rear sway bar and maybe a set of Koni FSD's it would be almost perfect!(I'm one of the rare birds who prefers the rear bench of the CM to the rear buckets. But that's fairly minor in the scheme of things.)

I think the Paceman looks a little sportier than the Countryman, and since I don't need the doors, it's definitely the ride for me. Couldn't be happier.
