Mark's selections are excellent and relate to each month they represent. It's a marvelous selection of images from around the country and even that one from Europe!

I'm pleased that he's stayed with the black & white format, over color. Separates the great shots from the good ones, IMO, and is a more fine art approach to calendar publishing.

Mark did the selection of the pictures, but from what I can tell, there was only 1 picture submitted by any of the people you mentioned.

People had to enter the contest to be considered for the calendar.

Agreed...there were some great pictures in member galleries. That said, for whatever reason, they were not submitted into the contest for consideration. I'm not sure if this was because of them not meeting the size requirements or some other reason. Regardless I selected images from the contest entries and the selections were based on the composition of the images, the content, and their ability to convert well to a black and white printing process. In these types of situations there is never a way to please everyone all the time.

I do hope that you will consider purchasing a calendar anyway since it is one of the means by which we support the operation and continuing development of the site.

Great work everyone! I'm really glad to see some new faces for this years calendar. Phil_Kidd who recently had some stuff featured on the MINI Owners Lounge made the cut, which is great! It really was no surprise that Mike/Donna would make it either! And to those that didn't get selected, all I can say is keep trying for next year---13 pictures out of 300 in a few days is a pretty tough decision, IMO.

Fabulous pics. There are quite a few of my personal favorites in there, so I'm thrilled. Congrats to everyone who was selected!

Just to add my 2 cents in as well regarding the black and white calendar...

I've mentioned it before in previous posts that while I very much like black and white photography that at some point I would like to be able to do a color calendar. Unfortunately the cost of doing a color version of the exact same size, paper, UV coating, layout, etc. is roughly 4 times more expensive (ie - several thousands of dollars). Given that the calendar is one of the ways that we support the operation and continuing development of the site the 2004 sales of the calendar, while good, did not provide me with enough confidence to risk the initial investment required. If we can sell a lot of the 2005 calendars then a color edition may become a reality in the future. With this in mind be sure to buy some of the calendars (they make great Christmas gifts) and encourage other members to do the same. As usual you can order them through the North American Motoring Store.

Sorry Mark

Don't get me wrong I am happy with the overall turn out. It just kind of reminded me of last years calender a bit. Still good work & props to all the photo takers Let me know where I can send a donation to this site. It has been very informative & enjoyable for me!

Great job and congrats to all the winners. I'm a photographer who does mostly motorsports stuff and I'm really impressed with the quality of work. Nice to know so many of my new Mini friends are into photography.

Jenn,

I'm really excited that I made the calendar - Yippee!! Most people probably assume since Mike is a professional photographer, that it was him that took the picture. But.......it was little old me with my little Nikon Digital - LOL!!! And I'm glad I could get your baby in print....

Chow!

Donna,
I must confess I was one of those that thought Mike snapped the pic- sorry.
Photographing in fog can be a challenge. You've done an outstanding job!

WOO HOO!!! Somehow I knew it was you who got that pic! Way to GO Donna!! That sure was a cool drive through all that fog and streaming sunlight. And I still like the pic of you and Mike cozy in the drop-top by the sea... puts a nice lil' warm glow in my heart...

I tried to access the calendar gallery but apparently Mark's closed it to outsiders. Mark, is there any way you can open it back up again? I'd like to revisit some of those pics once in a while. If it's a question of copyright or other legal issues, I understand.

Jenn
Jenn,

It's a question of having a lot of high res pictures that were submitted for the contest and preventing others from pulling those high quality images out for other purposes. In addition, now that the contest is over there isn't a need for NAM to maintain all those high res photos. So the calendar contest submital gallery is no longer around.

There is a gallery of the winning entries though that you can access.

Dave

Thanks for the explanation, Dave. I guess I'll just have to revisit some of them in my head.

No problemo Juan... Since Mike is the professional photographer, it's natural for everybody to assume....I just thought I would throw everybody off track...

Chow!
