How To Mount a Boost Gauge in your Turbo MINI
Here at Mach V Motorsports, we think every turbo car should come with a boost gauge. (Don't get me started on what other gauges the MINI doesn't come with...)
Anyway, to put a boost gauge in your R56, you'll need the following:
- Boost gauge adapter for the manifold
- Boost gauge
- Gauge mount
In more detail:
The first hurdle we have to overcome is that the entire intake tract on the MINI is made of plastic, meaning you cannot easily tap into it to get a boost reading. The Craven Speed PSIclone Boost Gauge Adapter fixes this problem by clever use of CNC-milled aluminum. The adapter allows you to take a boost tap off the manifold pressure sensor.
Next you'll need a boost gauge...
We carry the very-affordable Prosport Boost Gauge.
(Shown with the white LED lighting enabled. It also lights up amber.)
I chose a PLX DM-100 multi-gauge system.
(This photo shows EGT, but I also have the Boost/Vacuum module, so it can display that too.)
Finally, you want to mount your gauge in a way that looks tasteful, and works with the very non-flat interior of your MINI. The Craven Speed FlexPod Mount System is perfect. The base Bracket A mounts behind your factory tach, and other modules, including gauge cups, nav mounts, and iPod holders, mount to that. It looks and works great.
Here's a shot of a customer's R53 with two of the FlexPod dual gauge pods, custom-painted body color to match the car.
There will be a little wiring to do, and you will need to plumb a boost line to your gauge or gauge sensor (depending on what type of gauge it is). But these parts are what you need to be able to know how much boost your engine is making.
Click the hyperlinks above for more information about the parts, and pricing and ordering.
