I promise I will post the resolution once I get one Right now I have ordered a caliper (for $235 freaking dollars & that was a good price for one) because that's all that's left. After only 600 miles of driving my new rear pad is 50% worn & my new rotor is severley worn too. I have ordered the caliper plus I got the pleasure of buying a 2nd set of new of rear pads. My installer is doing the reinstall for free & supplying another rotor for free. So far my new, OEM sized brakes have set me back $1115 not counting the fact that my rear wheel is now ruined from all the brake dust (& yes my wheel is 100% ruined, the dust is baked into the finish, I have tried to get it off )
I will say that if the pad still megadusts after the new caliper is installed
anybody standing near me might wanna step away

I have 2 things to say

1st: I have heard wear reports all over the board, rears first, rotors long before pads, 2 sets of pad, rotors still fine, fronts first (the normal wear pattern on any car), lasted forever, wore out in 10k. Mine are all wearing extremly evenly about 20k and the pads and rotors front and rear all have half thier life still. This doesnt make sense, because driving styles doesnt seem to factor in, near as ican tell, sounds like inconsitencies in the brake quality of the OEM stuff, but i dunno.

2) Weird brake dusting: like isaid, mine have worn extremely evenly, but the other day after washing my car, and driving for a week, i noticed that my one from wheel was abnormally brake dusty, (like the rim was black) while the other three were clean. I pondered about that myself, didnt make sence, been driving the car for about a month now, and the dust had been normal, and all last summer the dust was normal, yet sudenly one wheel decided to dust considerably more than the others! This also ties in with poor QCM in the OEM brakes, but i cant say for certain.

So at least your not the only one with weird brake dust issues (yes i realize i was talking OE and your talking Hawk, but at least im (or you) arnt the only one....

As long as you are still using OEM pads & rotors you should take it in to the dealership for a looksie because that is exactly my problem, 3 wheels clean/1 wheel dirty. My caliper (according to the dealership) very probably would have been covered under warranty but because of me getting aftermarket rotors & pads I am screwed on any dealership help

These brakes were my first mod (minor as it may be) but I am now terrified because I am getting a pulley installed at the dragon & the way my luck is running my supercharger will probably explode afterwards

actually, that is probably a good point, the car does seem to pull a bit to the right now, and it never did before, and it also hops around a bit more on bumps. I do run toe out in the front, but it never did either of these for the months i have been running that, it just started the other day. Well, i guess im out to the garage, to see whats up... I do want an excuse to put my new comp pads on (snyper fwiw, i won them at an autocross, dont know the darndest about them, other than they contain every element known man, judging by the box (carbon kevlar metallic composite...). But maybe a bbk (hmmm a 12.2 tce kit with 11.75 rear would be really, really nice). Ok ok, ill go look now, oh, i just noticed that while i was posting last night, you posted you bought a new rear caliper, what did they say was wrong with it?

thanks

well, just by feel and look, everything is in order. Maybe tomorrow while im doing nothing iwill take the mini out, and give the brakes a work out, see if i an induce the dusting, and see if it really pulls on hard braking. That wheel also isnt any dustier than the rest, and its seen a few days of driving since the last wash...

We will see

I just ordered the new caliper & am waiting for it to arrive on Friday. Every other brake part has been looked at & worked on so we kinda of figured it was the caliper by process of elimination. I will post if that solves my problem. If you don't hear from me for awhile that will mean that the new caliper didn't solve my issue & I am probably in jail for shooting my mechanic

shouldnt all mechanics be shot? oh no wait, no they shouldnt! mechanics are great, the "technicians" that shops now employ should be tho. most true mechanics are long retired, very few left. you notice how in shops they have become technicians? thats i because they dont fix anything, they plug in a computer and replace what it tells them isnt working. Ive had things test drove, they agree something is terribly wrong, but cant fix it because the computer says everything if fine. Yeah, great, thanks for the help moron! Thats why i do all my own work, and everything, save the occasional oil change, car depending, or warenty work, but even most of that i rather do myself. Hope it works for ya

BRAKE PROBLEM IS SOLVED
It was the caliper. I have only driven approx 25 miles since the fix but I made a point to do some strong braking & when I got home there was no dust on the right rear wheel. Yipee!!!

My mechanic went above & beyond. I did have to buy a 2nd set of rear brake pads & the caliper but my mechanic replaced the practically new but worn rotor for free & he also did the caliper install for free. Yeah for Munich Sport Now I just have to buy new wheels because my rear one has been irreperably damaged by baked on brake dust oh well I secretly wanted new wheels anyway

i put new brake pads on today, but the weather has been warm the last few days, and i really pushed the car, the slight pull has gone away, the the weird brake dusting hasnt reappeared. I ended up putting new pads on today just for the heck of it. I dont think my dealer would do too much anyway, we dont get any fancy brake service or free oilchanges here in canada when we buy a mini. BMW does tho, go figure.

(trying to kill my rotors so i can buy front and rear bbks without feeling guilty)
did you guys hear something?
