the pitfalls of high mileage tires
I have some tires on my Vdub that are rated at TW680. They have good tread left but they are dry rotting. The Fla sun eats them up. I figure they have about about 75k on them and I got them in the fall of 2002.
I used to buy high treadwear tires but the rubber gets old, tires get road abuse and flats and generally the tires get noisy before the tread is all used up.
Currently on my van I have tires made in mid 2002 that are cracking a little and one has a slight sidewall bulge. Treadwear 680 and lots of treadleft.
They are my second set of tires with 55K miles on a 2001 Odyssey.
For the MINI I get very high performance tires and drive them for a year or two then switch for the fun of it. Performance tires get old and the rubber isn't so good.
