Original 15" wheels and JCW brakes?

Does this combo works?

Do I need spacers? How big?

I want to replace my R90 in the winter and was wondering if my spare 15" MINI wheels will fit?

Thanks

No, the 15's won't fit over the JCW brakes. Just get some cheap S-lites for winter...

The Bridgespokes (16 inch) is the only OEM wheel less than 17 that will work with the JCW brakes, but it's not available in the U.S.

Hi,

I just ordered a MCS Chilli with the JCW pack (and recaro's to keep me comfy) over here in AUS but am having difficulty with the wheel spec.....the mini garage insists that I have to have 17" wheel and i want 16"...they quote the JCW brakes as the issue.....anyone managed to get JCW and 16" wheels out of BMW on a new order?

Regards,

Chris Banks

If I'm not mistaken the R87's will fit and they're 16".

Here's a link to show what they look like.

I remember reading on motoringfile that there's only one MINI 16 inch rim that will fit over the JCW brakes. Not sure if the above is it or not.

Right! Here is the article with the list of MINI wheels which fit over the rotors and calipers.

anybody have any info on aftermarket wheels? specifically Volk TE37's (some say the gold standard for lightweight forged wheels). 16x7 ET42. Seems to me that they will work, given they are designed to fit BBK's. I guess worst case, I'll take one buy MoS and test fit.

The R87 Double-Spoke MINI wheels do fit the JCW brakes.

I did some research after ordering my 06 JCW MCS and found that the bridge-spoke and double-spoke were the only 16" wheels approved for the JCW brake kit.

Yesterday I picked up my JCW and drove it away with the 16" double-spoke R87s with 195/55 winter tires.

There is even enough clearance for inner wheels weights... I was worried about that... but there seems to be a good 1/2 inch clearance between the wheel and the caliper.

hope this helps.

I think most 16" wheels will physically clear the JCW brakes no problem. Most aftermarket wheels have higher offsets (lower numerically) that move the wheel out further than OEM MINI wheels, and

The issue that MINI was concerned about had more to do with an adequate
amount of cooling. I know firsthand that R84s (X-Lites) clear, but they're not on the recommended list.....

Regarding the 16" R84 'X-Lites', I too have read that the JCW brakes will physically fit. The issue is the R84's may not provide adequate cooling for the JCW brakes. So, my question is, if I'm using R84's only during the winter months in which I'm driving less spiritedly, cooling shouldn't be an issue having JCW brakes and R84's. I use 17" Web spokes for my summer wheels which do provide the needed cooling. So, with this understanding, I don't see any problem running said configuration. Any thoughts?

I think it depends on how you drive in the winter. Being in VA, you're gonna have a lot of clear roads for much if the time. I'm running the Bridgespokes, with Dunlop WinterSport 3Ds in CT, and the car still out-handles and out-brakes most cars-it's not like driving a winter setup at all. So with out lack of snow this year, I've been driving the hell out of it. So I'm glad that my Bridgespokes have the stamp of approval, so to speak.....

If you were in Vermont and planning on running Blizzaks, maybe that would be okay, but no one outside the JCW testing facilities really knows what the cooling data looks like.....
