Thanks for the offer! The reason I was wary of the 11.75 Wilwood kit is because I read that it would need constant maintenance which is hard to come by when you don't have a garage or a decent area to constantly take off the tires.

It sounds like the RA-1's offer a nice balance and could be helpful as I learn, although they are expensive.

...constant maintainence??? Who told you this mb?

My kit is essentially the 11.75 kit with a 12.3 rotor and all stainless steel components. The 11.75" rotor was replaced with a 12.2 directionally vained and slotted rotor. (no rubber components) I have one track day and 1,200 miles of city/highway driving with zero problems. I haven't touched them. The rears have the tyrol sliders/sleeves and these require some maintainence.

Ok, excuse my ignorance here, but what I understood was that since the calipers weren't "booted", they'd need constant cleaning/maintenance. I got the impression that the kit wasn't meant for daily drivers. I should have been more clear above. That is information I got from pms with Todd from Wilwood, and it is entirely possible that I read/understood completely wrong.

Brakes and BBKs are things that I'm still learning about so thanks for your help! It sounds like for what I want the 11.75 would be great with 15's for the track and my 16's for the street, as long as it's a feasible application for the amount and type of driving I do.

He may be talking about winter salt and sand, but that really only requires a hose down every so often.

00ppps, posted at the same time.
Yea, what he said ...

Not really that much of an issue mb. All aftermarket parts need special attention.

Yes, for sure. But, I'll either own the car by then and leave it in the garage for the winter or I'll remove the brake kit since it won't fit under my 16" snows.

EdgeRacing has Falken Azenis RT615s (215/40/17) for $102 each! I have had these for a year and they are great on the street and perform well on the track for lapping. If mine weren't wearing so well, I'd buy a set just to keep for next time...
cheers,

I am running very light 16 x 7 Rota Slipstreams with verry short 205 40 16 RA1's and Wilwood 12.2 in front kit with the race (slotted not drilled) rotors. This is a very good strret track combo with a few catches to watch out for.
You will need different pads for track and street. I use B copound race pads on the track and you can get two hard days. I change to HP10 for street and they will probabaly go 50k miles. I tried the HP10 on the track once and they lasted about 50 miles at Road Atlanta! The B's are to hard and noise for street use. It take all off 2 minutes to swap with the Wilwoods though. The other catch is with the tires. I took mine out with only about 500 miles on them at full tread depth and badly turtured them. The tread was rolling around and melting. I was running with C5 and C6 vetts at the time so that explains some of it. I suggest many more heats cyclyes or shaving if you will run very hard. I will not by these again as they are to soft and the tread has to much room to move around. I still like them for street though and they would have been fine if I had not turtured them so. I did not have camber plates on and Road Atlanta has three very fast rights that just killed the front left.

That size (205/40R16) isn't listed at the Toyo website... Do you mean 205/40R17?

Sorry - they are 215 40 16. They are approx 8% smaller in diameter than the factory size. This gives a very noticable gearing improvment (and a significant speedo error). On the track - fifth is now useful - before it was to tall. On thew street 6th is now great all the time on the highway. I no longer need to go back to 5th to "play" in traffic. I have not noticed a milage drop, but do not do many long highway trips where there may be some penalty.
PS - the Wilwwod 12.2 only fit under a very few 16" wheels without spacers. They do work under the Rota's with very carfull instalation of the caliper.
