215/45 on R99 (or other 48s) and 205/45 $100 tires

Time for my winters to come off I'm really sorry if this question is sort of a repeat of every other tire question - but I've got one specific question that I’d like some assistance on. My second question is more general.

1) Can some one absolutely verify (maybe with experience) that a 215/45 will fit on factory 17s with a 48 offset with out rubbing, etc? In particular, I have the R99s, however every other MINI 17 has a 48 except the s-lites (which have a 50). I see a lot of other confirmations with 215/45 on other offsets and 215/45 on s-lites, but can't seem to find anything concrete with a 48.

2) If I’m advised against going with 215/45 on my R99s, then can any one comment on the following in 205/45:

Best reviews – NAMer favorites?
Dunlop SP Sport Maxx
Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2

Best prices ~$100
Avon Tech M550 A/S (a few MINI owner comments on the Rack and here are not too favorable)
BFGoodrich g-Force Sport (recent comments - this tire is okay!)
Dunlop Direzza DZ101
Kumho ECSTA SPT (mixed)

Average?? ~$150
Continental ContiSportContact 2

What I’m looking for is low road noise and comfortable handling (including good rain traction) good for some very long road trips this summer.

Thanks, Paul

215/45-17s on OEM R99s will not be a problem with standard suspension and probably not a problem if you plan on lowering at some stage.

In that size i'd also consider the Toyo Proxy4($90) or T1Rs($130).

I bought the Goodyear F1's because they are said to be very quiet and excellent in rain....

1st. The 17x7 S-Lites are a +48mm. offset. ( The ones I just removed and washed to sale are! That what's on the inside of one of the spokes. )
As for tires, go to Tire Rack and check out the FUZION ZRi's in a 215/45-17 about $90 each. ( I even put a set of 265/50-20's on our Frontier crew cab truck and I LOVE them! ) On the S-Lites No Rubbing! Now on a Enkie RPM-2 @ 16.9lbs. in hyper black from Discount Tire mail order dept. w/ a +45mm. offset, Still No Rubbing!
Good luck!
Almost forgot, the S-Lites on the same UPS scale as the RPM-2's where 26.7 LBS! w/ valve stem and center cap and 3/4 of a oz. of wheel weight!

Thanks for the info MINI2 needs to update their FAQ.

I received feedback on the AVON, Fusion, Toyo, and GY. Time to give Tire Rack a call. Thanks!
