I have been running 17/8 42 offsett with MINOR rubbing issues for over 50k miles now . My car is lowered about 1.5 inches from stock. I usually run 215/45 series tires but have used 40 series as well. Hope this helps a bit.

Thank you This picture shows them a little better. The are normally silver but when I bent one slightly at the track I could not match the paint exactly so after I had it straightened I decided to powder coat them . I had always wanted the lip polished so I had that done at the same time. The color is called Black Chrome and it is a two stage coating process. I have since learned my lesson and have a different set of wheels for track fun.

Different?

That kid was an idiot. He tried to convince us his car, a bone stock MCS, "fishtailed" a lot so he needed wider rear wheels. He wasn't different, he just got caught by the educated members of this forum for doing something stupid to his car and insulting our intelligence with his BS justification for his decision.

Well...

Not standing up for the guy, but I also had a stock 2004 MCS and yes, I have had fishtailing before. Albeit, it was in the rain, but when braking hard, the back *** end wanted to swing out left. I also go through rear pads every 15k miles, while the front pads look like 75% still there, if not better. He may have been having the problem I have, and of course, my dealership always says.... lets all say it together... "That's normal".

Last time I checked, the front pads are supposed to go out first. The ******* are starting to **** me off, as my rear slotted and cross-drilled rotors are starting to lip more than the front, and they won't warranty those. I also noticed, with the slotted/crossdrilled rotors, I don't notice any fishtailing.

Your dealer is right, it is more common for Mini rears to go faster then fronts. It might have to do with the E-brake setup.

Different isn't ALWAYS good And agree that he deserved some of it for making up such goofy stories (i even had a PM discussion with him about it) but there were still people making fun of him solely cause they didnt like the wider wheels.

Rally,

one thing i noticed here on NAM, people are so perfectionist, or if i can put it in proper words, not open minded. i see all mods the same, nothing new, nothing exciting, unfortunately myself included. Was that kid correct, i read his posts, most of them were BS, but i liked it. He was trying something different, wrong or correct, he was up to something. Anyways, remember when we had all those discussions on 18s vs. 16s, i am strongly considering 16x7 BBS RG-Fs now, with 225/45/16s, dunno how the hell i am going to fit those rims 35mm in my lowered car, but more than likely will find a way if it does not work, i will cut the fenders perhaps.

but on the other side, still will have a set of 18s, always had always will

anyways, stay cool

Dont forget that if they have just 2 mm when sitting still, they will rub on corners, especially long ones.I dont know if Id want them rubbing on a long high speed corner,it could get expensive. The other thing if there is obvious signs of rubbing and you get stopped by police its an unsafe condition.Around here they have blitzs for this kind of thing.

Cool dude....the 16s sound like they are gonna look sick. I agree that NAM is pretty dry toast...i have gotten so much "hate" for my 15s not being the standard 17 inch aftermarket wheels and having a plaid interior etc. But as long as you are doing what you want....you should be happy

Let me see pics when you get the new wheels....I'm thinking about putting spacers on my 38mm 15x7s, so we may need to share tips on getting them to fit on lowered cars

My 17x7 et 38 wheels fit fine, no rubbing. Lowered on kw coilovers.

I don't think et 35 would cause much trouble, it would be the 225 width tires that might cause you the need to trim a bit of plastic. Should look great!
