Attn: Hamann HM4 wheel owners - HELP!

I am wondering what size tires you are running, what type of springs you have, and whether or not you have rubbing issues. I have a set of 17x8 43mm offset HM4s on order and I am running M7 springs. Trying to decide on a tire size. I want 215/45/17s but I don't know if they will fit.
thanks

I have the same wheels, the car has Eibach springs which lowered the car about 1.25" (same as M7) and control arms for camber adjustment, tire size 215x45x17 will not pose a problem at least not for me since I've never had anyone in the back seat! I imagine if you put four people in the car you'll have some rubbing issues. going with 215x40's is an option but you will most likely suffer ride quality and risk bending your rims with huge potholes everywhere . Bon courage

Most likely you will rub in the rear wheel wells. Trimming with a dremmel will help with clearance.

17x7 rims with +42mm offset and 215/45-17 tires in a lowered MINI will rub a little with a full load in the back or with rough bumpy roads and hard cornering. Not really enough to do the trimming.

17x8 rims would make the 215 tires even wider so I would predict rubbing.
215/40-17 tires are lower profile so better clearance but harsher ride and less likely to rub if at all. Tire prices might be slightly higher, tire load is a bit lower than stock.

Another option is 205/45-17 stretched to fit the 17x8" rims.

What brand of tire are you running? I've noticed that some tires have a rounded sidewall while others are square. I am sure this plays into fitment quite a bit. Oh, and did you have to trim the fender lining?

Yokohama ES100 tires have a square shoulder and are more likely to rub.
But I have also rubbed using Bridgestone Potenza S-03 in the same 215/45-17 size. So you'd need quite a rounded shoulder to get clearance.

Rubbing with passengers in the rear seat would be expected, no rubbing with only you in the car is certainly possible. You know how many are usually in your MINI.

Any tire size with a slightly lower tire outer diameter might do the trick. The 215/45-17 tire is about 24.6".

Man, I hope I can work a set of 215/45s. It is extremely rare that I have a passenger. Julie doesn't like the MINI so we typically take her car when we go somewhere. In fact, I can only remember her riding in the Mini twice. When I work with my business partner we take his car. I have never had anybody in the back seat.

HM4 - best tire size

Rick,

I just bought HM4's and I put the runflats on 'temporarily'. What size tires did you finally put on? I've been looking at 215/40/17 and I see where Fast-Auto.net who sells HM4 says Hamann says 215/45/17 will fit. I bought my rims from Bavarian Autosportand they definitely said 215/40/17 fit BUT were uncertain on the 45's. I will likely add Hamann sport springs which will lower the car 20 and 15mm front/rear respectively (possibly I might add coil over suspension which would lower the car 50 and 30mm front/rear respectively but the cost is huge).

Can you help?

Robert
