What is offset?

Excuse my ignorance, but what does "offset" refer to when speaking about rims? What is the OEM (if there is such a thing) offset for a MINI Cooper with 15" holeys? And if I get wheels of a different offset, do I need certain extra hardware to make them fit?

Thanks for the lesson in offset!

Rock on,

-Boognish

thats a good explanation

I dont know what the stock offset is for the holeys, but the mini can fit anywhere from 38-somewhere in the 40's(depending on wheel size etc.)without any extra hardware

It actually looks better than I thought it would.

Compared to the original lower offset model though, the spoke geometry doesn't look as nice. They did it to keep the lip though, which I assumed would go away. It's the feature most people are probably interested in anyway.

original wheel for reference:

I agree, the look ok, the RH desgin wheels look nicer and so do the orginal Panasports....

Almost makes me think it's worth the extra to get the real thing. Better quality product and look with the Panasports... Who knows ???

I'm not sure I agree... from my perspective, the spoke design on this offset panasport is prettymuch exactly like this. The only difference I can see is the shape of the area between the spokes. The reason this wheel looks strange is the angle of the picture. That the Panasport is higher quality is speculation. The only thing certain is they cost over twice as much. They're both knockoffs so you don't even have the good feeling of buying an original to justify the higher price.

I'd like to see a few more pictures before casting judgement. it might just be a bad angle.

Edit, here is the other picture on that site:

I have a set sitting in my garage waiting for tires....i like the look.

the center caps are small cylinder-like shapes with some teeth on the circumfrence. They look far more classy than most of the cheap center caps you see.

I will get pics as soon as i get the tires from tire rack

I have called konig reps, and they still say the wheel is unavailable...so im close to one of the first with these on a mini

You pulled the trigger quick eh? Looking forward to seeing them on the car.

Do you have a reasonably accurate scale you can put one on before having the tires mounted?

Yah....i really needed new wheels and tires because all of my track days were rapidly coming up...so i pulled it

I dont have a great scale, but i can try it on what i have. Good win did it on their scale and got 14.4 nothing great...but better than my last aftermarket rims at 19 pounds 17x7

Have you bolted one on yet to check brake clearance, and if so, did the stock lugs fit ok?
Sorry to be a pest. I'm likely gonna order in about a week & have the most rotten luck in such matters...

havent done that yet....honestly didnt think about it In terms of brake clearance, they dont seem like they would be a problem. Pretty open design and they fit the big brake kit on the miata which tends to catch on many o the other 15 inch wheels.

i will check the lugs and let you know

ok....just checked.

They clear the rotors and the stock lugs work fine

You will want a thin walled socket for the lug nuts and you will need the correct hubcentric ring....but thats it

Hmm, that's interesting because Konig lists the wheel at 13.32 lbs on its website. Anyway, I think it's a great looking wheel -- I was about to pull the trigger on the graphite set until I saw the pictures on this thread -- in these pics the wheel looks just like the Panasports -- which I already have (great wheel by the way). No wonder I liked them.

I noticed these wheels for the first time tonight and REALLY like them. I've been wanting a set of nice looking 15"s for my snow tires and these look like they'd work.... but I am not sure if my tires would fit. Blizzaks, 195/60-15. Anybody know from looking at the numbers if that'd work?

They'd definitely work, although 7" is probably a touch wider than ideal.
