I had problems with metal centering rings. All of them were difficult to remove. One of them got stuck on the hub and it was absolute murder to get it off. Once I replaced them with plastic and started using anti-seize compound, I have had no trouble - no sticking, no melting. The shop where I bought the plastic rings said they were "polycarbon" (which I thought was just a line they were feeding me), but the Gorrilla website Ryephile mentions says theirs are made of "Poly Carbon plastic", too. So when I buy yet another set of wheels in a couple of weeks , I'll be getting Poly Carbon plastic hub centering rings. (Of course, I realize it could be the liberal use of anti-sieze compond that has made the difference with no more sticking to the hubs.)

Thanks, Ryephile!

Brad,

How did the swapping turn out? Vibration? Are these the rings I want (same wheels)?

How do you guys know if and what hub rings are required?

I have been looking at all sorts of wheel websites and it doesnt look like anyone mentions them - if your lucky you plug in your car and it comes up with the wheels that supposedly fit, nothing about hub rings I hate it when I find a site with interesting wheels and they do not even have the car matching function (or the wheel weights )

I didn't have to worry before, the BBS wheels I bought for the E46 just came with the right rings

I got back from my first track event of the year and a road trip of about 900 miles and the rings seemed to work out pretty well. I give them a thumbs up. Give Discount Tire a call.

Thanks, cabmeister.

I was having TERRIBLE vibrations with my flicks too! Then a fellow member told me about metal rings. They almost solved the problem, but i think the wheels are out of balance. They arent the strongest wheels.

They way to determine if you needs rings or not is by the time of vibration that you are getting.

If you get a vibration at all speeds that means the wheel is not centered on the hub thus, you need hub rings. Or you can try centering the wheel yourself and tighten the lugs down evenly.

If you just get a vibration at a specific speed 50-65 mph then that is a balance issue.
