Will 225/45/17 fit on a MINI?

In preparation for my new MCS arriving, I took the cool Rota wheels I currently have on my WRX off and put the stockers back on. While I would love to use the Rotas on the MCS, the bolt pattern is not the same nor would the offset be very good to use on a MCS. So, My plan is to sell the Rotas and get something that will fit on the MCS. Now, the Rotas have new 225/45/17 tires on them, and I would like to use these on the MCS if possible. Will they fit?

If you have lowered springs or coil overs then using 225/45-17 tires will most likely rub in the inside of all four wheel wells requiring cutting of the inside plastic fender wells. Use a dremmel tool.

If you have a stock MINI suspension and the tire shoulders are a bit rounded you might be able to get a little rubbing in the rear.

A good person to ask is alex@tirerack.com. I have an MCS with H-sport springs and 17x7" aftermarket rims and if I used any 225/45-17 I would definitely get rubbing. I already get some rubbing with 215/45-17 in the rear with four people in the MINI.

It is really going to depend on the Offset of the wheel.
I am guessing you are going to need an et of 38-40 for those not to rub on the inside (ie hit the front shocks or rear trailing arm)
I run 225/45 R 15's and these dont run but my offset is 35, the 17 will probably get closer to the rear trailing arm than my 15's. They should be better on the front where they will be higher up on the shocks than my 15's.

Charlie @ RDR, http://mini-works.com , sells packages with that tire size and has stated that it doesn't rub. Check his web site.
