I'll be visiting 7ent soon,

could be wrong, never been there, but 7 says NOTHING about MINI on their web site

they are Mini . . .

be careful how you approach this question ... I know some Mini folks who will shut off talking to you if they learn you are pro MINI

SAD

but true . . .

Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to tread lightly when asking about it. I think Ill be looking at new ones for the classic, I'll squeeze the new one in there too. WayMotorWorks were great last time ordering, not too many options on their site for stock a stock 02 Mini.

@afadeev: And man... I've been doing it all wrong this whole time, breaking in the rotors and pads. Glad I posted this.getting some great feedback.

Another 2 cents worth: If you're drastically changing pad material, then it makes sense to use some emery paper (about 320 grit) on the rotor surface to break the glaze from the old pad material. It will allow your new pads to bed quicker. "*****-footing" (light braking) without getting the pads and rotors hot will just make the process take longer. Just go out on a nice, quiet country road, run up to 50-60 mph and make a firm, hard stop. Do that a half-dozen times in succession. You're done. If you're planning on doing some track time, I recommend you consider something like Hawk HPS or even HP Plus compound. They're not too aggressive for the street.

Thanks for all of your input guys! I finally had time to replace the pads. I went with some Hawk HPS's. I followed their instructions on bedding the pads (6-10 stops from 30-35 and 2-3 hard stops from 40-45). They seem to feel really good.

I am glad I replaced my brakes though. The fronts and driver's side rear were fine. But I guess the people who put on the last pair didn't do the rear passenger's side well at all. It had a major ridge on the outer edge and was completely worn through to the metal on the inner. The dealership completely missed that...

one thing to remember is to use brake lube on the pads and slide pins and clean the abutment clips.
other wise a worn ( and probably an expensive rotor ) will result

I dont know if you are still looking but i had put a set of rotors on my mini from Sp-performance in CT and theyve been awesome. The pricing was good on rotors, pads and have couple drilling options. I went with a crossed drilled and slotted rotor they stop great.

Well, it's been a few years since I've made this thread, so I am probably going to get some new pads and rotors sometime soon. At that time, I bought some Hawk HPS Street pads an that were significantly better than the OEM pads in terms of braking power and a lot less dust. (Such a pain to keep white wheels clean)

It's a 2002 R50 and I don't plan on doing an high power engine work to it, so the slotted or drilled rotors might be a bit overkill.

I think I was looking at EBC redstuff for the pads as well as some EBC rotors this time around. (Matching pads and rotors for once) I don't need to replace anything yet, but I'll make sure to look around before I buy anything.

I used EBC redstuff based on recommendations from this forum. Fine stopping power but I do not drive aggressively.

But very dis-satisfied with the brake dust! IMO, they are worse than the OEM pads they replaced. I have less than 5K miles on them (front and rears).

For reference, I replaced the front rotors but the not the rears.

Hmm, I put EBC Redstuff pads on my MINI and they produce almost no dust and what there is, is very light in color. A big difference from the OEM pads that produced huge amounts of black dust.

I changed the rotors as well as the pads, when I did the brake job, as the stock rotors, though not scratched or scored, were worn below specifications.

My reds always made dust, but they stop better than OEM so I'm cool with it

EBCs do stop well, no doubt. A woman today decided to turn left into a shopping center across 3 lanes of 45 MPH traffic. Instead of maintaining her speed, she decided to slow down to a crawl as she entered the parking lot. I was the lead car in the leftmost lane, hit the horn and brakes, did not skid and stopped well short of her. The other two cars did not stop as fast but thankfully stopped and missed her. She stopped 3 lanes of traffic flow and looked clueless when all three of us honking our horns.

Like MrBlah, I'll put up with the dust. But just recreational complain about it
