De-Runflating a OEM wheel
De-Runflating a OEM wheel
Is there something special about MINI's OEM runflats that would make them useless without the run flat band?
My thought is, I don't want run flats (but the R83's i picked up are). Can i just have a shop remove the band and run just the tire on rim?

Mini are rims are 100% standard.
The runflats that mini use do not use a special rim...they are refered to a DSST.
So the rim can be used with a normal tire....and the mini runflats can be used on any rim (with a tire psi montoring system).

PS
Most any shop can demount the mini runflats....the sidewalls on the tires are very stiff, and the remover must go VERY SLOW, USE LOTS OF LUBE, AND USE PLASTIC COATED SPOONS (MOUNTING/UNMOUNTING TOOLS). Many shops rush...and scratch ip the rims...a shop that advertises does runflats...like a branded goodyear dealer might charge you more, but have the tools to do it...some have a machine.
