will these rub?

215/40-17 tires fit rims 7-8.5" wide and tire diameter is 23.8" tall which is less than stock. Using stock suspension the wheel gap is larger and ride height off the ground is a little less.
40 series sidewall is stiff so don't hit any potholes or speed bumps going fast or you will risk damage to your wheels, tires or suspension.

For street use and daily driver
205/45-17 is stock sized for 17x7 rim and the best fit.
The first number is the width of the tire in mm, the second number is the sidewall ratio, the less the number the lower and stiffer the sidewall for better performance and rougher ride on the street over bumps. A lower sidewall lowers the overall tire diameter for a given tire. The last number is the diameter of the wheel used.
215/45-17 will also work if the tire you want is not in the stock size, but it is a little taller so a little less clearance in the wheel arch of the rear but still ok with stock suspension.
45 series sidewalls are a little taller and more comfortable than 40 series sidewalls.
Continental ExtremeContact DWS is a good tire for all season use on the street- good wear and good in all weather.

$119 each 540 treadwear
For the cost this is a decent all around tire with more comfort and longer wear in mind.
If you have a larger budget and like to drive faster but want some comfort for street use and for all seasons, then see

Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS is good on handling in all weather
$150 each for 215/45-17 400 treadwear
The treadwear number is just approximate. A tire with 400 rating will last twice as many miles as one with 200. Many of the Extreme summer tires will have ratings less than 200 while the Max Performance Summer tires have ratings about 300 or less. It's not that accurate just a rough gauge.
