Hi guys, I am looking to install a winter tire on my Mini Cooper and was wondering if you can help me out. I have the 16" factory wheels (195/55/16) and need a good set of winter tires for driving up here in Wisconsin. If you could please give me some recommendations it would be much appreciated.

P.S: price range around $500

Need help finding a snow tire too. I am looking for run-flats and can't locate any now. Was expecting to put Dunlop Wintersports on but the run-flats can't be found now in 16 195/55 size. If any one knows a source or an alternative run-flat size that will work, let me know please. TireRack is out.

You can't go wrong with Bridgestone Blizzaks as long as you don't mind higher than normal wear. They are the best. I went with Michelin Arctic Alpins. Got them from Discount Tire Direct for about $96 each (including the $10 a tire rebate from Michelin about 3 months ago). No tax or shipping. Got them mounted and balanced for $40 at the local Discount Tire. Drove 33 miles to work this morning on glare ice. They worked well. Laughed as I passed a new Corvette sidways on an uphill freeway stretch with a couple of guys pushing it and didn't look back.

I just bought a set of Pirelli Winter 240 Snowsports. They are quite good in the snow and slush of Michigan driving. And the performance in the dry is surprisingly good. Not as good as my Pirelli Eufori but good enough.

Package C above is $475! Now we're using Dunlop Wintersport M2 with the steels.

I bought a set of the Dunlop WinSports with steelie rims last winter and have absolutely no complaints. They dig nicely on the snow and ice, and they do very nicely on dry pavement, as well. My local tire shop (Discount Tire) swaps them out each season for free.
$800 with rims from my dealer.
