2011 TPMS won't fit new R90 wheels

Well, one day after buying my 2011 Clubman S, I went to swap out the factory 5-Star Pace wheels with new MINI R90 wheels. When the tire technician took the TPMS off the Star Pace and tried to mount them on the R90, the TPMS won't fit. The angle of the surface where the TPMS mates to the wheel on the inside is different. The difference in angle won't allow the stem to out straight and thus not allowing the collar to be secured on.

If I buy some new TPMS, how do I know if they will fit? Right now the R90s are fitted with rubber valve stems.

How "new" are those R90s? They've been around from as early as 2004. If they were sitting "new" on a shelf for 6 years they won't be designed for the TPMS.

Who/where did you buy the R90s?

edit: I just noticed you mentioned rubber valve stems which means they are pre-2008. You need a newer set of r90s.

I bought my R90 from Morristown MINI about a month ago. The tire guy at my local shop could not install the factory TPMS onto the R90s because they could not adjust the valve stem angle. They put rubber valve stems onto the R90s for now. I ordered some new TPMS from Tire Rack yesterday and I received them in the mail today. The should fit because you can change the angle of the valve stem. The one I got from Tire Rack are made by Beru. They look very similar to the one in the following post.

Here is a writeup I found.

Factory tpms should fit the r90s. I'd be back at the dealership asking them to "fix" it.
