what are you using for warm pressures on those RS3s?

I put 39 LBS in them cold and did not check them again... I am still just concentrating on finding the course and driving it better... traction does not seem to be an issue as much as taking better lines, finding the right breaking points and transitioning the from braking to power on smoothly to load the suspension so I can use the new found traction! But I sure had a blast yesterday. When I saw the final results I see that some of the last runs passed me in times - but I am still right in the scrum of far more experienced autocrossers with similar cars and tires. I was the fastest of 5 Minis including a JCW so I guess I have those bragging rights!

too much fun - congrats on moving up in the shark tank!

y'might try more in the back - I'm running a full STX setup so YMMV but I generally am 38/48 front to back.

better rotation with more pressure has been my experience, but it gets to be a handful in slaloms with too much.

36/36 on the street, which avoids any twitchiness

cheers,

Charlie

I believe that 15 may be the best. They are typically lighter in weight, first of all, then say a 205/50/15 willl improve the gear ratio for better acceleration. 225/45/15's would be agreat combination.

I've tried both 225/45/15 and 205/50/15, and the 225 combination really hits the sweet spot nicely. Not that the 205's are bad, but the width of the 225's wins out...

Thanks for the feedback, Dan. I love it when we can help push someone else down the slippery slope.

If you want to confirm the size on the tires, I think you should consult this with a good tire installer, because he knows, what fits best and what works best.

are you running those tires on the x-lites? and is your car lowered at all? do you think there would be room for a 1" drop with them? im trying to decide if my 05 mcs would fit the 225/50/r16's with 1" drop (h&r springs with bilstein sports).

Yes - I am running the 225/50/16's on x-lites - I cannot speak for an 05 MCS as mine is a 07 MCS - they are slightly different - but they fit with plenty of room for compression and turning on mine - IMO you could easily lower an 07+ MCS an inch... but that may not apply to your car.

Just wait until you move up to r compound tires. The difference is dramatic.

Yep - particularly on a cool/damp day with the first run.

When I was running R comps, the first run was usually good for either a long slide or a spin, as the back end would have no traction to speak of.

But on a warm day, and once the tires had heat - wow!

It's been much debated what the difference is in lateral G, but my own data indicates about 1.2 on stickies, and about 1.1 on treadwear 140 rubber.

Of course the stickies have much stiffer sidewalls, turn in faster, and are a bit less forgiving of slip angle so the overall driving experience changes in more ways than just max grip.

I was banished to ASP for the first few years of running the Works car (due to the "trunk kit" status of the dealer installed option at the time) and I don't regret my trip to the dark side. Too much fun.

Nice not to change tires so often though (lazy me).

Cheers,

Charlie

This is interesting, I've got nothing but grief that x-kites on't fit my 2011 R56 and that 225/50R16 will rub. Is there that much difference between the earlier R56 and the current one? Well, besides the annoying I couldn't get a LSD because they dropped the option.

The X-lites with 225/50R16 should fit very well... the 2011 is identical to the earlier R56... I run that combo on my 2007 with plenty of room to spare.

Making the jump from R-Comps back to Extreme Streets. Glad to see the choices were narrowed down. Admittedly, pressing the "Easy Button" for tire choices (regarding the A6) will be missed... Seeing my bank account dwindle by $1000 twice a season won't.
