I am going to order my new wheels. They all package them with tires.
But I am concerned about the type of tires they put in these deals.
they seem to be cheaper tires to make the rims look more attractive
because of the price.

What tires have you bought?
Which ones would be avoided?
Any problems with these cheaper tires?

Your help will be a big help.

Thanks!

if you're looking for all-season performance, you might want to try some SumitomoHTR+. they were good tires for an all-season tire.

if you drive hard and agressively and in dry climate, then you might want to
spend a little extra and get some s03's or es100's paradaspec2's. these yok's are
very affordable vs their performance. i use the s03's (bridgestone) on my wrx and will not go to anything else (my weekend car).

the 'cheap' tires you mention suck in a way mostly of traction and noise, but also
some tires burst/bubble on the sidewall with enough force. im currently using
SP9000's, but plan to swap them to Falken ST115's in the spring. during the
winter im going to be using some cheap wheels I bought from Alex (Speed edition
TK5) and pirelli P6 four seasons. I dont plan on doing any hard driving in the
winter time so this is why i chose these tires. these tires are known for failure
in the sidewalls but perform rather well in snow and on-road diving... $67each
can not be beat for local casual driving in the winter time.

I'm in Phoenix, so hot dry temps are the norm.
Spirited driving...isn't it always like that.
We are just starting our driving season.

I have been offered (or pushed) the Nankangs on more than one occasion.
They seem to be the tires of choice for "package deals".

Is it better to just buy the rims then get the tires from someone else?

its much easier if you can get hte tires mounted when you buy your wheels, but its up to you. i usually buy my wheels from the tirerack as long as they have what im looking for.

The more costly tires bring one or more of these charteristics

- better wet traction
- more dry grip
- better steering and cornering responce
- quieter

"cheaper tires" may not convey these charatersitics as well!
