How does different wheel sizes make an effect on ride height?

well the headline already states my question....

If you go from 16 to 17 do you gain height, stay the same or drop lower,
asuming you choose same or close to the same overall Diameter?

Also will there be more or less wheelgap?

thanks just cant seem to figure it out

Usually when you increase your wheel size you decrease the aspect ratio of your tires, thus the overall diameter stays the same, so the ride height, clearance and gap stay the same as well.

ok that makes sence was just wondering...

so would that meen if you go to lower profile tires meening a lower overall diameter that would lower the car by as much as your diameter goes down?
wheelgap gets bigger?

Going with a smaller-diameter tire would lower your ride height by one-half of the difference in diameter between the old tires and the new tires. The wheel gap would also increase by one-half the difference in diameter.

For example, going from tires with a 27" diameter to tires with a 26" diameter would lower your ride height by 1/2", and increase the gap between the tire and the wheel well by 1/2".

Stock 17" wheels are 17x7 and come with a 205/45-17 tire. Factory supplied tires in this size vary from 24.5" to 24.3" dia.

Factory 16" wheels are 16x6.5. Tire size is 195/55-16. So, tread width is narrower than stock 17" tires. Dia. on the stock tires is usually 24.4."

If you go for 16x7 wheels, as I did, you can use either 205/55-16 tires (dia. 24.9"), or 205/50-16 tires (24.1"). The 205/55-16 would effectively raise the car from stock height by about 1/4". The 205/50-16 would lower it by about a little more than 1/4."

Can anyone tell me if 1/4" change in ride height will have much effect on handling?
