Best 16" Tire/Rim Combo - AutoCrossing...

Hi All.

Attending phase 1 + 2 of the EVO driving school in a few weeks and NEED to get rid of the stock rims and Dunlop SP5000 run flat tires. I have been reading through the forums and think I want to stick with a 16x7 wheel with a tire size of 205/50/16. I have the car lowered with the coilovers and perfer the looks of 16" over 17". However, my question is what is everyones recommended combo for tires/wheels? I've been looking on TireRack and like the Gram Lights 57Maximum and the Borbet LV4 wheels but haven't been able to google any pics of this combo on the Mini (anyone..?). I'd perfer a darker wheel or something similar to stock as I think that fits with Pepper White. As for tires.. I am up in the air. Previous forum posts state that the Dunlop Direzza DZ101 tires are good but so are the Bridgestone RE-01 tires. The Mini is not driven in the winter and seldom in the rain but is not a dedicated autox car. Any decision making help would be greatly appreciated! I'm looking to get the ball rolling today/tomorrow.

Jeremy

Try the Rota Slipstream in royal steel grey and the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec in 205/50 x 16. A light wheel at about 13.5 lbs. and the Dunlop gets good reviews as an autocross tire. You can probably put together the package for about $1000.

thanks for the help (again). I ended up going with the Gram Lights 57 Maximum (16x7) with the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tires in a 205/50/16 format. Will post pics next week when I receve them. Hopefully these will provide more grip than the stock Dunlop run flats (ha). Best..

Is there any reason you're going with 16x7 rather than the stock 16x6.5.

I just got some SSR Type-Cs (11.5lb each) with Z1 start specs from TireRack, the wheels were on closeout. I'm glad I did because they seem to have been closed out now.
