Just your average 15" vs. 16" wheel question--Help a MINI ou
Ack! I'm still at a loss. I thought that I had finally decided to go with 16" wheels, but then a couple folks went and posted pix of some pretty hot looking 15"ers out there and also talked of better gear ratios which I surely would love. Does ANYBODY else have ANYTHING to add to this argument? I'm completely dumbfounded. Some people are saying that the 15s don't corner so hot, is there really any truth to this? Would the gear ratio alterations perhaps outweigh the slight loss of corning with the fatter sidewalls?
Please folks...any opinions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Yeah...I'm looking at 255/50/15s for these wheels if I go with 15, and I do have the eventual intention to lower, but that could be a while off yet. So until then, I'm definitely gonna be on safari with that setup, huh...

Sorry if this was already mentioned, I didn't read every message in this thread. Another reason for 16s is if you have any thoughts on upgrading your brakes. 4 piston calipers are available for 16s but I haven't seen any available for 15s. Something to consider.
That is definitely something to consider, because down the road I DO plan to do brake upgrades (but it's a looooooong road that that's at the end of!).

Not to change the subject of this thread, but what calipers are available for the 16" wheels? Everthing I've been able to find requires a minimum of 17" wheels?
Also, from what I could determine upgrading to big brakes really isn't necessary unless you plan to go road racing or you just like the big wheels/big brake look. Upgrading rotors, pads and fluid is more than sufficient for AutoX and heavy street (twisty) driving or even for occasional weekend track days.

Is a smaller profile tire possible with the 15 in rim for track days only. It WOULD look goofy and mess up speed/odemeter, but are is a performance package like that sold?.
and what are some peoples favorite 205/50/15 wheel/tire packages?
