Self Healing MINI Tires?!
Yesterday I was motoring over to Sheridan Road (one of the coolest places to motor if you love corners...and you know you do!!) and decided what a good idea it would be to go through Evanston. (for those of you not familiar, this is a northern suburb of Chicago). Anyway, I get to this light that just refuses to change, and there was nobody behind me....I figured this must be why nobody is behind me--they all know this light doesn't like to change. So I back up and pulled the MINI into an alley when all of the sudden I felt a bump in the break pedal and thought, what the heck was that?
Then I realized that my DSC had shut off automaticly, and I was wondering why it would do that...til I saw the runflat monitor light on! I am just about to finish the break in period and this happens! Doh!! So I drive her back home taking it nice and easy. Upon parking I see a nail about an inch long stuck in my tire with the head of the nail about as big as a quarter. Funny thing is it was in the sidewall and angled really softly into the tire.
I went inside to change, came back out and started her up getting ready to take her to PEP BOYS by my house and the lights didnt go on. I thought this was strange, but figured i would get it checked out. They said that they wouldn't plug any hole in a sidewall because if there is a blowout they will be held liable, and it was their policy.
I decided to pull the nail out just before leaving the PEP BOYS. I figured whats the worst that could happen? Well funny thing--nothing happened!! No air came out from behind the nail (and it was a pretty sizeable nail). I was thinkin that maybe my finger was just being stupid and I couldnt feel the air, so I put some water on it...no bubbles...drove it to work today and I am pretty sure that everything is just as if it were new.
This is totally awesome! I guess I just got really lucky and it stabbed the inner tire rather than the outer air compartment part of the tire. Totally made my day!
Later!

When there is a problem with air pressure in the tires you only get the tire warning light illuminated.
The DCS triangle and the Tire pressure light at the same time means that DCS has failed for some reason. This happend to my car when I did a huge sweeping peel-out from my works car park. It also fixes itself when the DCS gets a chance to reset itself.
I'm thinking that it's just coincidence that you had a nail in your tire when you did the ally reversing maneuver and it was that which confused your DCS system, not any loss of air pressure.
I'd still keep an eye on that tire though!
Pebble.
