DIY Polished lip from painted

I just bought some sport edition cd's in silver. I would really like a polished lip. I got a quote of between $75 to $100 per wheel to get them machined. The wheels were only that much, so I thought of giving it a shot. Mask off and start sanding away. Has anyone done this and can provide some suggestions?

You may have some issues just polishing the lip since your entire wheel has been clearcoated at once so the edge may start chipping if you remove just the lip paint.

A good how-to for wheel polishing: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1259115
