Brake Piston Dust Boot

Right rear brake piston dust boot has popped off it's mounts (original '03 caliper). Unlike the front, there is no "lip" for it to grab onto...this would be a good thing if I was actually able to get it back on.

It *will not* go back on. Even when applying pressure on four "corners" of the boot, it will stay in place for a second or so, and then slide off its position - partially re-exposing the base of the piston. Let me clear it up...the boot to piston itself is still attached...the boot to caliper/piston housing is off its mount.

Are new ones available through Mini? RealOEM and Bentley are telling me ****. If so, what do they cost. And can I actually install them myself? I ask this last question because I see no reason why the base of the boot should stay in place at all...there is no retaining lip, no bands, no clips to hold it in place. Is it just a "force it on" kinda thing?

Just don't tell me I need to buy a new piston for ~$260, when this one is still working fine (minus the shifted/popped dust boot).

Had to replace a torn one. It was very tough to get on. It's been a while and I tried so many different things, so I'm afraid I can't tell you what worked.
Just wanted you to know it's the boot not you. Don't give up. It has to go on just right to stay. Hopefully someone will post the answer for you. Good luck.
