Thoughts on 19" Wheels/Tires?
Everyone here is saying the rims will bend, etc, etc...I was talking to a friend of mine with a 2006 Mercedes CLK 350 with a set of Brabus Monoblock VI which he paid around 6k for. Either way he is running 235/35/19 and 265/30/19 tires on the car, he drives on the freeways a lot and he drives in Los Angeles a lot as well, he said his Brabus never bent in the potholes or the bumps, etc, and remember Brabus aren't forged they are made of alloy. On top of that he is riding on Tein Super Street slammed. He said the wheels will be less likely to bend as long as the proper PSI is maintained, can anyone here confirm this?
P.S...My friend claims his car is around 4,000 pound with him and his subs in it

That said, if you bend the wheels you could always buy a new inner barrel, or lip, whichever bends. But that still isn't cheap. Also, I'd drop the car else you're going to have 4x4 status as Rally pointed out. There was a red MCS here with 19" HRE's that was dropped, search around and maybe you can find some info. How good of a deal are you getting on the Asanti's to justify not going with a set of new HRE's, or others?
Alpha- that is probably one of the worst comparisons.

the problem with MINI's is the short sus stroke. you basically need to lower
the car quite a bit to make your car look good with 18's and 19's...when
you do you limit your stroke so much that you have to increase spring
and damp rate cause you only got very limited throw to work in. otherwise
you ride your bumpstops and mushroom your towers. this results in stiff
ride.
my G35C running 19's (050 PP's mind you) is smooth as butter. #1, the
circumference is larger so it rides over road imprefections easier, the
sus setting is softer in comparison, and the car has probably an extra 1"
or so of sus stroke vs a MCS even though my G is lowered 1.5".

Thanks for clarifying - his comparison are definitely apples to oranges. You're comments were similar to what Topline Automobile owner dicussed with me the other day.
And The CR MINI with 19" HRE wheels the other member mentioned, that was built by TOPLINE and the owner of the MINI is my friend. He rarely drove the car - strictly custom built for car shows.
You can see pics of his CR MINI on there website www.toplineautomobile.com, under MINI project.
I think it is safe to say...for a daily driver its not worth it. You will get the same amount of looks from people if you run with 18's and 17s with nice looking wheels without risk of damaging your wheels or tire rubs.
Its not practical at all. It looks nice

MY dampers were firmer), and a 22mm rear swaybar. the car rides very
well except over huge bumps... i can feel that im riding the bumpstop, so
need to slow down quite abit.
for the R56, i would do a 1" drop and on purpose run larger circumference
wheel/tire package to get the appearance balanced. the arches will
definitely be painted to body color. i'd probably do 225/45/18 or 235/40/18
on 18x8's with 43mm offset. and trim away the liner if it rubs. (this is
just from imagery, i have not done any involved calulations for R56).
thanks, my R53 is riding on h-sport springs and stock dampers (earlier

my R53 is already running 17's.
on my theoretical R56 setup, i would probably do the same drop
except run 215/50/17's or 225/45/17's on a 8" width.

Would you still stick with 215/50/17's or 225/45/17's on a 8" and this is with the JCW Aero kit installed.

I am in your area and I run 215/40/18. There are a few DCMMers that run 18's as well without any issues.
yeah, but I want to stick with 17s.
I am running 19's on my MINI and I have some rubbing issues but I think it is due to the fact that I am running 1.25" spacers in the rear and 25mm spacers in the front, and my car is lowered with H-sport springs. The rubbing isn't that bad with just me in the car, but if I have a passenger in the car, when I hit descent bumps it will rub a little. My honest opinion, I think you will be ok with these rims and tires, maybe a little rubbing with a passenger but well worth it with the look you get with the wheels. Good luck!
Here you go. That has the most recent pic.

does anyone know what is the brand of this rear spoiler wing ? ^_^
Hey,
I found a set of wheels, i'm considering they are Asanti AF120 with Nitto tires at a size of 225/35/19 the seller had these custom ordered for his 05 MCS he claims that there is no rubbing, no rubbing even going over bumps/speedbumps, and the turning radius isn't affected. But with those that gone with 19" what do you guys think? I'm going to leave the ride height stock if I go 19" but I need opinions on comfort, and the pro's and con's of doing this, thanks!

Updating this thread from way back then!

Instead of going with the Asanti, I ended up getting a set of Volk GT-N yeah I know, very different from the Asanti, I'm glad I didn't get those, as I think in my humble opinion that the 18" are the right size, anything over would be too big. The Volks are great wheels, they are a 18x7.5" pricey but great wheels, I love the look as well!
