New Brake Pads.. worth it?

I have a 06 MCSa and just hit 24000 miles. My Brake Pad light just went on and I'm wondering what to do. Should i go buy the OEMs or are there better options?

Before you buy anything go ahead and take it to the dealer and and get free new pads. Thats what I did but I also have JCW pads already. Just a thought.

I thought I would have to pay at the dealer??? I figured that something like that isn't covered under warranty work?

Check your warranty. Routine maintenance items like pads, rotors, oil changes, etc, are covered.

Depends on whether you find the stock pads inadiquate. Personally I did, since I take my car to the track. I'm ran Mintex C-Tech 1144's previously and liked them, but they're noisy (Lots of squeel). I'm now running Mintex Extreme pads and they're actually better than the 1144's (In between the 1144's and 1155's), but without the noise. They're whisper quiet (With a lot of dust you'll get some squeel, but the stock pads do that to).

I've run my car on the track with stock replacement rotors and pads quite a bit and haven't seen the point in upgrading to a big brake kit at all.

Hope that helps .

There are usually better options for less brake dust or better stopping.
You have basic front brakes or JCW brakes? The front basic brakes have many pads that are possible including ceramic pads that dust a lot less than stock. Mintex Redbox are cheap and dust less as well.

Best bet is to take it to your dealer and report the brake pad light being on.
Then let them figure it out. Many owners do get brake pads and sometimes rotors replaced under warranty.

I have reg. stock brakes. I'll take it to the dealer this week and see what they say. I know for the future i'll probably want ones that don't dust so much! Thanks...
