were. there were two apps....215/45/17 XL (Germany) and 215/45/17 (China). Tire Rack ran a blowout on the lower load models last year I think and some people got a bit perturbed at the country of manufacture (forgetting they got a nice tire for a silly cheap price).

Dear CR&PW&JB ,

Due to my earlier post on same tires, I am afraid I am going to have to take credit for your savings. A small "token" or "tithe" would be nice. (not a subway token but more like Paypal).

Sorry to burst your bubble, friend, but... I've had my eye on those ZE-912's for months, since I searched tire threads on this board and heard good things about them.

But hey... I'm willing to play.

Hey Irishpunk ! Thanks for the heads-up on the Falkens !!! They're really cool and I got them at a grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat price !!!!!!!! You're the best !!!

Was my token of appreciation good enough, or should you be PMing me with your paypal account info ?

uhh.....let's do the math. Vulcan Tire sells the 215/40/17 for $98. That's $432/shipped. Order the same from Discount Tire on this deal and it's $360/shipped.

Yeah I know, I got stuck with a pair but I learned a valuable lesson... to always ask country of origin when ordering especially if they are on sale

No xenophobia here, just common sense. I didn't even worry about it or know where they were from until all the bad reports regarding tires manufactured in China came out & I went outside & looked. Hopefully they are safe but MBE they are not. I know I will make a choice to not buy any future tires made in China again until they get their quality control issues resolved.

ZOMG! Everything made in China is crapzors!

keep in mind a Goodyear tire made in China is a far stretch from a no-name brand made in China that's sold at Wal-Mart and Pep Boys. Quality control is only half the issue....the other half is companies wanting the lowest COGS (cost of goods sold) and push the plant to do it at any cost. Quality isn't accidental.

Either way, for me, if it's regular price for German tires vs sale price for Chinese tires I will be opting for regular price in the future

and nobody could fault you for that decision...after all, it's your scrilla to spend. to make the mental leap to say that the German made tire is inherently better quality just because it's not Chinese made....well.... 404 Logic Not Found Error

Well then you buy Chinese tires from now on, they're really a monetary bargain

I just don't see how it can be deemed as illogical to be wary of products coming from a country that has had well above average numbers of recalls on tires & a wide variety of items of late

This sale appears to be too good to pass up.

I originally thought about going with the Goodyear F1s AS ($436-$40 cash card = $396) in the stock 205/45/17. However the Falken Ziex Ze-912s are looking like a extra great buy at $260 delivered.

As this sale lasts through Saturday, your thoughts on these two tires would be greatly appreciated.

get teh 215/45 Ziex 912 and you'll save even more I ordered them on a set of wheels for a whopping total of $536/shipped. Hard to beat that for a winter set even if you could fit steelies over the JCW brake kit (which you can't)

Thanks for the heads up on the deal! I've been researching and getting feedback on AS tires for the past month, great timing as it's starting to get chilly here at night

I just ordered the Ziex ZE-912s in 215/40/17 for $252!

I also passed the news onto a co-worker who picked up some ASXs for his Mazda 3.

Word must be getting around the entire country on this big sale. Got an e-mail from them today:

Thank you for taking advantage of our low prices and special sale! The response has been beyond our wildest expectations!

We've sounded the "all hands on deck" alarm, and we've got everyone working double-time to fill your order. Unfortunately we're still overwhelmed, so much so that you may not have heard from us yet.

We promise to process and ship your order just as soon as possible, so be on the look-out for our confirmation email with your tracking numbers.

I have to say my own experience with DTD in terms of customer service last month was really first rate. A Web-based order prompted a telephone call follow-up, received email confirmation and emails tracking the shipping status, a follow-up phone call after delivery, and a subsequent email survey to top it off. I felt like I was getting personal attention from the sales rep.

The first set (Hankook Ventus HRII 205/50-16s mounted on MB Drifter 16x7 38GBMs with metal hub rings and locking lug bolts) were ordered late on a Monday night, shipped from Texas, and arrived on my doorstep that same Friday. As it turns out, they were very nicely pre-balanced too. My second order--one week later--of winter tires (Hankook Winter iPike W409 195/60-15s, no studs) shipped from Ohio and only took 3 days from order to delivery. Nice!

I don't have any analogous experiences with other vendors, so I don't know if this service was about the norm or something extra. Either way, it was all good for me.

I bought a set of Goodyear Fourterra TripleTread and save almost $300 from what I just about bought them for last week. $752 vs $1,026 was too good to pass up. Now I'm off to buy a set of Nittos for the MINI to be used for next summer, snows are going on this weekend.
Thanks for the link!

Phwew... they don't carry the tires I just ordered from the Rack. That would have been painful.
