hey up all

long time since I have checked out the boards - been busy driving

Has any one else had problems with their S-Lites prematurely pitting , now before you ask I do wash them pretty regularly (once a week) and I have waxed them several times

It seems the brake dust bites into these wheel very quickly - now I do not know if this is worth persuing as a quality issue or not?

any feedback?

Based on how you say you take care of the wheels, it sounds a bit premature, but its hard to tell without seeing a photo, can you take a picture so we can see exactly what you are referring to? Where do you do most of your driving?
I have 17" S-Lites and they look just as good today as the day I picked up my car, but than again I only have 5m miles on mine.

will try to post pictures but with a camera phone I could not get good resolution

I do most of my driving pounding the freways of MI - The 17" are my summer wheels and have mainly (75%) been driven in dry wet weather - Now my winter set up 16" were driven through the winter and all that brings (salt, snow etc) but show zero signs of damage

Pehaps now as write this it is the heat and pad debris that is doing the damage not salt road grime - Again only a couple of times have I missed a wheel clean with the car waiting two weeks for a bath - I have had car since Dec and reached 10,000 miles

Thanks for the feedback - anyone else who has a few miles on their 17 Slites have any isses?

I think that for your area you might want to clean your wheels more often- say one a week or every 5 days or so. Reason is that road salt, dirt, brake dust and the like left on the rim surface (even with wax) will end up corroding the finish and cause the pitting.
So 6 months and 6000 miles. Maybe it is a combination of all these things left on the rims and starts the process. take it to the dealer and see what they say- hopefully they can replace the rim. Each wheel has it's own finish so your 16" may be finished in a different way or the water washes them off enough to not cause as much damage.
Wax frequently and then wash with simple green on a regular basis.
I wipe down my wheels once a day usually and there isn't much dust but if I wait two or more days there is much much more-depends how you drive-and brake. Another option is to get EBC green brake pads that cut down on the dust.
Is it only one of the S-lites or more than one and is it the front? The dust is worst on the front. Do you have silver or white finish?
I have the silver S-lites with 3400 miles after 4 months and they are fine.

Here is a discussion I found on pitting-
http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/?f=2&t=8862
AND
http://www.originalkds.com/motorcycle_tires.htm
Which states:
3. Note that harsh chemical washes, brake dust and road salts can cause pitting and corrosion on your wheels. Wash and wax your wheels weekly and use a corrosion protectant to preserve the appearance of an aluminum wheel.
