APO Shipping

I've searched and confirmed that tires can be shipped to APO's by Tire Rack; however, what about brake parts? I'm looking for an EBC vendor who will ship to APOs without pricing it as an international shipment. The couple/few I've contacted all charge ~$35 for international shipping. Come on, shipping is only to New York, not directly to Tibukto!!!! From NY mail to APO/FPO addresses are carried via military aircraft around the world and only requires typical USPS packaging compliance. Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated.

Cheers!!

I think that it would be hard to charge you international shipping considering it is an APO (NY address). Whomever, these vendors are that you have talked to, are ripping the APO customers (soldiers) off.

That being said, there are quite a few vendors that will go out of their way to ship UPS Priority for you.

MINI-Madness (just send an e-mail to George or webmaster)
MINI MANIA
Out Motoring

are just a few....

Tire Rack is also a great source for tires. I bought the tires for both of my cars there.

On the few occasions I've had to do this it IS a much bigger hassle than you think. I don't recall the final price but it's not the same as normal shipping, does require you do it in person at the post office and requires all the customs forms be filled out. I've resorted to "shipping plus 10%" on all international orders of late simply due to the time/works spent to do so. With the PO you can do some on line work but you cannot buy insurance for example which makes high value iffy.

True, it is more work but remember, the folks that you are doing this for are the very folks that are protecting your country.

Any vendor that will step up and mail to an APO is worthy to mention and to be honest, I have yet to meet a MINI one that wouldn't do it. Thanks to you all!

We ship APO all the time. It's really no big deal. We don't carry EBC, but do carry Hawk pads.

Of course I'd rather have everything sent to my APO Box and appreciate business who do; in reality it is costly and time consuming for the shipper. That is why third party shippers are doing a booming business these days. I use ShipItAPO.com for all my mailorder items that woun't ship by USPS. Once registered you get a physical stateside mailing address with contact number. The folks at ShipItAPO.com will sign for and receive your package from UPS, FedEX, Emery, DHL. etc. and mail it to your APO Box for $6.95 plus actual postage. I've received my Dinan suspension and exhaust system through them and the service was flawless. Check them out!

BTW, APO mail does not take Mil-Air from NY; it all flies to the Frankfurt Flughafen via commercial aircraft. At Frankfurt part of the mail gets transloaded onto trucks where it goes out to most of Europe. The rest of the mail gets sent back out on other commercial aircraft bound for Italy, the UK, Greece, Turkey, SWA, etc.

MANY companies do not want to hassle with shipping items overseas to an APF/FPO address. I have had to deal with that when I lived in Italy. I wouldn't do it if I was a vendor due to lost items (and it happens a crap ton) and I'm MILITARY...

Just like they have the right to charge extra for APO's, we have the right to spend our money at the companies that dont. I make it a point not to shop with these companies, I`d rather do without than pay extra, I have found a few for various companies that will not charge ANYTHING for military members overseas though. 50resto.com is a perfect example of this for mustang/chevy truck/ford truck/diesel performance parts. It may be extra effort for them to fill out the customs slip, but look at what we do for the country and all the buisnesses that operate inside of it.

One thing to remember guys is that not all compaines on-line systems can handle the APO stuff. For instance, MINI-Madness is this way, but a quick e-mail to George and all is well, so don't rule a company out just because APO is not listed.

Shipitapo is another great idea if you a looking for another resouce. I don't use them all the time as I really don't like the additional charges and I often found what I was looking for at another site without the additional cost.

Thats so cool you sold me without even checking it out. I've had the worst time trying to send stuff over, making it difficult and time consuming for myself and my wife's friend who's gotta be getting sick of my requests.

Tell me about it. I was using "ShipItToMyParents.com" but I felt it was taking advantage of their good nature. The last thing I had them reship was a Clear Bra for the Cooper. My Mom thought it was some type of newfangled ladies undergarment. For the life of her she couldn't figure out why a brassiere would cost so much and come in such a big box.

Yeah guys, I've had the same experience as mentioned above. Anytime a website didn't mention APO shipping, I simply e-mailed or called. Most times it was just a matter of the website/ordering application not having the option built in Of course, Amazon is a different story. If the site says no APO, they MEAN it
