Hair line cracks in S-lites
Hair line cracks in S-lites
After some searching here on NAM, I have not found anything on cracks in S-lite wheels.
I have 8000 miles on Wensley and have been working with the dealer on an alignment issue that turned out to be a defective strut and control arm. All replaced under warranty - no problem. However during this time at the dealer the rear hatch lid (boot lid
) was scratched. This sent me checking her over a bit closer than normal where I found the wheel problem.
On one of my s-lites there are a couple of what appear to be cracks. They look like hair and are between three and six inches in length and are right by the bead following the curvature of the wheel. I can feel it with my fingernail. The dealer looked at it but apparently they are not going to fix or replace it. The wheels have been run around the car in attempt to cure the alignment issue. I'm not sure if they ever broke the tire/wheel down doing this.
Has anyone else experienced this ? If so what is the cause ? I know I have not hit any potholes or ever come close to scuffing a curb, in fact I am usually a foot away from them. Maybe I'm going overboard ? In my family we have yet plenty of aluminum wheels and have never seen anything like this.
I will try to post some photos later tonight.
Cheers,
Mike
I'm going to pick her up from the scratch repair and should have a better take on why they are not replacing the wheel

Cracks? Wow, I have not heard of that. I have about 50k on my S-lites, and aside from so curb rubbings, they still look pretty new. That does not sounds normal at all.
Could they be just cracks in the paint, or do you think the cracks runs through to the other side?

I just picked her up and the paint work on the lid looks acceptable.
The "crack" apparently is (according to the dealer) the edge of the clear coat on the wheel. Apparently when this one was cleared it did not make it all the way to the edge of the rim, it has aquired some stubborn road dirt and its edge revealed, so I guess I'm being paranoid.
Wensley is my first brand spankin' new car and I'm just nuts about her and her appearence !
Case closed.....

Good to hear. And no worries about being nuts. That is of course a requirement for hanging out here. Well, or at the very least "touched in the head."
