Suspension Best street/track rear control arms
Best street/track rear control arms
I'd like to hear comments on what rear control arms people like the best for street and light track use. Does anyone know the difference between Alta's gray control arms and there new red control arms. Thanks for any comments you can give me.
I purchased 4 IE control arms with poly last May. These lasted about 20,000 miles at which point they were very badly worn; the car sagged about 3/4" and there was 1/8" play in one lower inside bushing and 1/4" on the other inside lower bushing. That play was with me tugging lightly on the arms. I'm sure the play/deflection was much worse under true load.
I could not feel a difference between these and the stock arms on the road or track. But they are adjustable.
I recently replced all 8 with rod ends. The control is awsome! These were not the Aurora rod ends I asked for - no teflon for self oiling or noise reduction. I don't know who makes the rod ends shipped to me from IE.
These were a bit noisy at first, then got a little worse. I removed all 8 again, used Mobil 1 synthetic grease on the short dowels that seat the arms onto the hub and sub-frame. I did not lube the sperical bushing. They are much more quiet, alarmingly quite...I'm surprised the lube helped...I used the grease to keep internal parts from rusting, not noise reduction.
These cost about $25.00 each from IE or $200 for the rod ends alone. Aurora rod ends are about $60.00 each from Pegasus.
Rods ends are supposed to wear much faster...but poly only lasted 20,000 miles and that ain't a lot of miles in my book, 60,000 is. We'll see how durable the rod ends are...
You'll like the control
