Please check your tie rod ends!

over the last 2 weeks i have replaced 7 outer tie rod ends due to excessive play. a couple of cars were so bad that if the customer had taken a good bump, the tie rod could had easily broken and caused an accident.

so if you do your own work on the car or if you are taking the car in for work ask the SA to check your front suspension, as a safety item.

Good luck!

Thanks for the "Heads-Up". I'll have my car in the air tomorrow changing the oil and rear pads, so I'll give those a look over.

I changed these at approximately 50K miles along with inner and outter ball joints. The ball joints are probably less likely to wear as quickly...good thing too. These are a PITA to replace.

Thanks for the heads up joey.

Mine have some play and they definitely need replacing. Are these covered under the 50k warranty? And if not, how many hours labour can we expect for the dealer to fix?

Also, will the car need alignment afterwards?

From CarCare.org

"Maintenance Tips/Suggestions: Your vehicle’s steering and suspension systems should be checked regularly, at least once a year along with a complete wheel alignment. A worn tie rod end can cause wandering, erratic steering, and excessive tire wear. If tie rod replacement is necessary, a wheel alignment is also required because tie rod replacement disturbs the toe setting. For best results, consult a qualified service technician for professional advice and service on your vehicle’s suspension and steering systems."
