Suspension H Sport Springs
H Sport Springs
Im wondering If anyone has had this problem. I have an 03 S with 25000 miles, and im getting a weird clunking sound comming from the driver side. it sounds like a loose strut. I have taken it to the dealer twice 1st they said it was somthiong rubbing against a bushing, know today i was told it is a collapsed spring, (spring rubbing against itself) I have checked all bolts and screws all are tight,I was told to check everything with both wheels off the ground with no tension on sway bar, everythings tight. Please help.
remove one of your front endlink and go over something on the road
that was predetermined to make that noise. process of elimination.
your strut might be going bad. you did check the torque on the nut
on the piston shaft, right?

ok, nobody laugh...
when i installed my h-sport springs myself i got loud clunking sounds, of different pitches from each rear side. when i pulled the rear struts and basically re-did the install i found i had installed them incorrectly. i had not tightened the strut-top nut completely on the drivers side and i had the order of bump stops, hats, and bushings all out of whack on the passenger side.
my advice to you, if you did the work, would be to pull the rear struts and do the install over again. its a pain, but the only way to make sure you've done everything you can.

A couple of personal observations on HSport springs (and probably all lowering springs in general).
They vastly speed up the wear on the stock dampers. If you've had these 10-15k miles and have crappy roads and/or autocross, your struts are likely shot, sorry. Another possibility is the springs sticking on the perches when you turn. I had this happen due to HSport camber plates rusting out. It caused a "clunk..clunk..clunk" as I turned the wheel.
I also had the same problem as dark06mcs: the top strut nut would come loose causing more of a rattley clunk as the strut would go up and down.
