Swap out trany need help

I have located a 6 sp manual trany to replace my 5 speed manual that is making noise. what problems will I run into swaping the 6 sp in place of the 5 sp? are the axels the same? are the clutch plates splined the same? will it bolt in OK ? the shifter and linkage for the 5 sp , will it work for the 6 sp?

If you know or have done this please advise.
Thanks
Paul

Send me an email and I'll go over the list. It will take more than just the tranny. I'm currently working on this project.

Trany swap

I am glad I am not the only crazy person...

My Email is Paul.L.Nelson@NTCmn.edu
I teach in the High Performance Engine Machinist Program here at Northwest Technical College in Bemidji, Minnesota where it is always warm and sunny..

Would you have an extra 5 sp for a 03 laying around that is in good shape??

Mine makes noise in 2nd, and 3 rd gear, that is why I am looking at the swap, if I could find the correct trany I would rather just put a 5 sp back in.
Any help would be great.
Thanks
Paul

That's the same reason we're doing the swap. This trans makes the noise in all gears.

i know for a fact that you will need a clutch/flywheel combo to fit the new trans.. but you may run into the flywheel bolting to the crank problem, and maybe even a starter issue. you will also have to run the drive shafts. they are all different. some S shift linkage and maybe a shifter and maybe a slave cylinder and you're good to go......

what i really want to see is a CVT to a 6 speed swap. now there is some fun.
