Suspension Front swaybar clunking HELP
Front swaybar clunking HELP
Hey guys and girls , i just recently swapped a bilstein sp/h&R combo from a 04 to an 06 mini . Everything went great becides this loud clunking coming from the center of the car when the swaybar is in its place. I checked all the bolts and nuts and everything is nice and tight , but i tryed disconnecting one side of the sway bar link and the clunking completly went away
Am i overloading the front sway or by any chance were the bilsteins made for 02-04 mini's and the 05-06 front sway links are a little longer or what is the problem that is driving me crazy ??
thanks for any help in advance guys.

Have you ensured the endlinks that are attached to the strut are firmly on?? I was getting a clunking sound as well that grew more frequent after I did my struts to FSDs and discovered that this was loose. I troubleshooted the noise by removing the wheel, and putting a jack under one wheel and jacking it up until I heard the noise and could locate the source.

everything is nice and thight , from what it looks like is that the end links seem to long so once the car drops on the ground it just pushes the sway down and make it hit whatever it hits in the center of the car and starts clunking around.
Put the car on jack stands and then place a floor jack underneath one of the lower control arms. Jack underneath until the endlinks free up. Then check them to make sure they are not worn out.
When you jack up one side, this twists the sway bar and puts tension on the end links. Even if you get both front wheels off the ground, the sway bar is usually twisted putting tension on the end links.
On a race car, it's important to put the car on a level surface and adjust the end links so there is no tension on them. This technique is called "taking the pre-load out of the sway bar".

Well, do tell us what it is, so we can learn from your error.
