Well...I dont know if I posted my update on here but Autopower built me a moonroof spec'd cage for FREE as a replacement for my mistake with no questions asked. And I only paid $400 for it. I would post a pic but the cage is just mocked up in the car.

Wow. Really impressive.

If you already knew what you bought was the greatest thing in the world, why ask? And if you weren't ready for negative opinions from experienced people, why bother? And if you can't handle _possibly_ making a poor purchase, why buy something without doing the proper research?

mb

hey mb, did you even read my first post? I NEVER asked about the quality, build, safety, or anything else of that nature. I simple asked if anyone HAD INSTALLED one, and where they cut into the rear body panels.

if you arnt going to answer any of my legit questions, then why are you posting in here? heres that first post again so you can re-read it.

p.s. this is their SCCA legal full cage. the real question is where if anyone has done one they cut the rear side panels to attach the rear down tubes to the rear (not sure which) shock towers or wheel wells?

I would love some pics if anyone has some.

I have the Autopower sport bar with the factory seats that have the airbags. I also use a Schroth 6pt harness. While not a full cage, I feel safer than nothing and factory seatbelts. If you are going to do wheel-to-wheel racing you probably need a full welded NASCAR style cage. The Autopower bar is intended for TT, Autocross and HPDE.

yeah thats what this whole thread started out wanting. DJ I must have skimmed right over that pic, I checked your gallery and just missed it.

If you could can you take a close up pic of the down tube entering the rear side panel? I know i plan on cutting this thing with a dremel so it might not be pretty, but please dont be shy!

Well....I have some more photos up in my gallery. What Dan Zipkin can up with is a rubber escutcheon that covers the cut into the quater panel. There really is no way around this. The only thing you can do is make it as clean as you can. I figure if I want to take the bar out and go back to a stock look I'll find some good used panel and replace mine. Although I have no intention of getting rid of my car anytime soon!

Ps. Grassroots Garage did the install, Thanks Dan!

If your a great guesser with a lot of luck....you can cut the hole and slide the panel down the c-pillar bar before you mallet it to the hoop. You should know what I mean by Mallet...

Here is another thought as to how to cover up the necessary cuts in the side panels. This was the first attempt but you get the idea. I just used some vynal material from a upholstry shop and rubber cement to do this mockup. The second version came out better but I do not have a pic at the moment. Hope this gives you some food for thought.

Thanks Randy,

We used basically the same material but chose to make a small doughnut around the hole that is cut to fit the back brace of the bar. You could make this out of Vinyl seat material or EPDM rubber. Most of the hard-core racers I have met don't bother re-installing the interior. I wanted to retain the semi-stock look. Experiment...Good Luck

Side bars ? Do you have the 6 point cage ? I only have the 4 point so I am not sure as to how to help . Its a long weekend but I would give Rick a call at autopower on monday. They may be in anyway.

1nf3rn0,

You have a "06" the cage was designed for the 03-04. The door panels are different on the 05-06 cars. This is what's causing your problems. The only way I've heard of fixing is to find some 04 door panels. Then they work just fine.

All you have to do is remove the arm rest pads, the doors will close

Also, You can take out the door bar portion when daily driving or not on track, it makes getting in and out of the car easier as well

See my gallery
