Suspension 03 r53 suspension - already have bilsteins
03 r53 suspension - already have bilsteins
Hi,
I bought an r53 with bilstein yellows (not sure if sport or HDs) and 16" rims (non-runflat). The ride in the bay area is pretty rough especially when I hit an expansion joint on the highway and it feels like the suspension bottoms out.
I'm not sure how to fix it.. here are a few of the scenarios that I thought of, keeping in mind that it's a daily with rare autox and maybe an hpde in the future, but mostly just my mind-numbing 1 hour commute to work:
1. E30 guys take the bilstein sports apart and trim the internal bump stops. This allows for a little more travel.. anyone ever try this on a MCS?
2. Maybe if I get a stiffer spring rate the suspension won't bottom out quite so easily.. H&R sports are my usual Go-tos. I also see those old mini SCCA H&R springs on TMS.. are those any good paired with bilsteins?
3. Go stock replacement shocks
4. Sell Bilsteins and get something like godspeed/megan racing coilovers. I've had these on e30s and miatas and was completely happy with them.
I've ridden in cars with 700-1000# springs that were tolerable on the street all because the geometry was setup correctly and the shocks were properly valved. I typically love bilsteins (i've ahd them on my e30s/e46/e90/miatas etc) and really want to make them work on the MCS since I already have them.
Any advice is welcome!
