Koni yellow incompatibility issue

While having some H&R springs and Koni yellows installed yesterday, we ran into an incompatibility problem with the top of the rear struts and the stock "top hat" for the strut. As confirmed by Cy at Tire Rack, the opening in the hat is 10mm, while the strut bolt is 12mm. I can't believe I'm the first one to have this problem. We ended up having to drill out the hole to make the strut fit. Wondering whether Koni will include an aftermarket strut hat with future strut sales or at least let buyers know that they will have to do some drilling.

Yeh I had to drill it out too. But I knew this way in advance reading this forum. I agree at least print it in the instructions to drill it out. Aftermarket top hat would be overkill.

This has been well noted on this and other forums for years, but it would be proper for
Koni themselves to include it in product descriptions, installation instructions, etc.,
wouldn't it??

i would not call that an "incompatibility issue". a lot of cars you cannot even get bolt in koni shocks. they only offer inserts. which means you have to cut the old shock body off the shock and reuse the lower perch of the shock and bolt the koni into it.

So i think enlarging a whole by 2 mm is not really an issue.

OK, I must have missed any post where it said that drilling was required. I ran a ton of searches on Koni shock upgrades and other suspension/coil posts and never saw this. Newbie mistake. My bad. Won't happen again.

No, drilling was not a problem - just an unexpected step. Struts and H&R coils work great.
