Missing lower rear shock cover ?

I go to a car wash alot, monthly unlimited plan and every time I exit I hear some metal rubbing , wanted to see if my wheels were rubbing but no marks but noticed on the non rail side of car wash my rear shock has a plastic cover, none on the drivers. I assume the first time in wash it knocked it off.

Anyone else notice this ? I doubt it's needed and if replaced would most likey get knocked off again.

When I had my 08 it didn't have them. I noticed the covers on a later model version. Nothing I've lost sleep over....

I noticed that I was missing one on my 2013 S Coupe. Noticed it a couple weeks after getting the car last Aug. Either I drove off the lot like that or it fell off while driving (never been through a car wash).

My stock rear shocks have them (sitting in the garage).
My replacement KW v2's don't have them with no ill effect or any signs of impacts.
None of my BMWs ever had anything of that sort either.

I would not worry about them.
If something took it off, it probably wasn't the car wash *else it wasn't attached well enough from the factory*.

Yea I know them, they just pop off. Pretty useless. Looks like something an engineer added to add some sort of wind noise prevention.. like that would help.. or impact protection.. like that would help.

Screw it, I'm throwing mine off and calling it a weight reduction.
