Would like to know what would be the most comfortable/softest lowering springs out there.

I live where roads are pretty uneven so something too performance oriented i.e. stiff, wouldn't be ideal.

I like the lowered look of minis but don't want to end up with bruised kidneys because of it.

Thanks all.

H-Sport...hands down. My wife who's ridden in my mother's MC with 16 inch wheel/tires tell me that my MCS with H-Sport and 17 inch rides better than mom's

It's because of the H-Sport's progressive rate springs.

Why doesn't someone make taller fender flares that give the appearance of lowering the vehicle without any of the downsides?

I have many lowering springs before on my honda (not my mini yet), I have found it to be better to get coilovers. This is because for the extra money you can lower the car as low as you want and bring it back to stock at any time. But driving around town with a dropped car as they say isn't always fun. I don't think I am going to drop my car anytime soon. But if I do, I will get coil overs.

thanks

Don't all of the (available) coilovers for the MINI lower it even at the tallest height?

actually all the available aftermarket lowering springs i know of are progressive-rate.... a lowering spring has to be that or else you'd bottom out all the time.

and to answer the coilover question - i had spax on my GTI, and i could change the ride height to make it taller than stock all the way down to wayyy lower. so, no, coilovers, at their "tallest" setting, don't necessarily lower the car.

depends on the brand i guess. i know the spax don't.

I'm really digging my Alta springs. Good smooth, firm ride while adding agility and and some 'stick'. Lowered but not pimped (on a MCS at least). Wheel well gap with 215-45'-17s is perfect. Nice quality and great price. I highly recommend them, plus you would be supporting a smaller manufacturer (as opposed to HR or Eibach), although I have great things about the Hsport stuff!

I have H-sport springs on my MCS and do not think that they are a soft ride at all. In fact they are pretty harsh on poor roads. All depends how bumpy the road is.

I seek the smoothest roads I can find all the time to keep the roughness down but it is quite harsh.

I have heard that Eibachs are closest to stock ride quality, you might want to confirm this with someone that owns Eibach springs. Or you can try to call Randy Webb and ask him for an opinion.

HR springs lower the MINI even more than H-sports.

Does anyone know what the spring rates are for Stock and the various manufacturers (H-Sport, Alta, Eibach, H&R) That info would allow you to make a better decision. The advantage with coilovers is, not only can you adjust the drop, but you can easily get different rate springs (softer/harder) to suit conditions or your rear end.

How big is Hotchkis Performance? Between the Hotchkis brand and their Japanese Import brand "Hotchkis Performance" and their European brand "H-Sport", it seems like they have carved out a decent chunk of the market here in the US.

I think out motoring was refering to the Alta Springs... wich ironicly are made by H&R for Alta.... so you are supporting H&R anyhow...
