tire size for a lowered mini

If I'm going to be around .5-1 finger gap all around on a 17x8 et35 wheel. Should i go with a 205 45 17 tire or a 205 40 17 tire? Will a 45 look too tall? Ive been asking this question but can't seem to get a answer. When i had my VW GTI people always ran a 40 on a 18 and a 45 on a 17. I was slammed then and ran a 40 on my 18s.

My GTI

45 would probably work, you risk a little rubbing though. I think 40s look better, and they definitely won't rub.

I'm running 215/45/17's on mine. Lowered with NM Engineering springs. No problems rubbing on mine.
